Bought a used in “perfect” condition 3090 for $500 on fb marketplace. When I got back home to test it the card wouldn’t work, after examining the gpu, I found out the ENTIRE board had been wiped! The guy had sent fake videos of the card working, he had originally agreed to the refund, but blocked me right after.
Don’t know what to do man

Honestly there’s nothing you can do unfortunately.

If he was dumb enough to use his real name on Facebook, you can likely get his address by googling it.

Unlikely to help, but you could try police/sheriff? Explain you were scammed and have his real name.

Seems like they are never beating the allegations. Turn over this shit to the police

Thats Why I tell the Seller to Leave it in the System for Testing when im picking it up. If not possible I dont buy.

For everyone saying call the police, you either don’t live in America or haven’t dealt with police. There’s no proof of anything unless there’s a video on hand.
All the dude needs to say is yes, we discussed this at the sale, we agreed on it. Now it’s he said she said and the cops can’t do anything with that.

You should have been able to spot this from a mile away at that price

Well you already have his face and name from the marketplace post. Do with it what you want. It seems like you already know who he is. But that sucks. Like physically removing the stuff is pretty low

I don’t wanna be that guy, but the police won’t be able to do anything. Facebook marketplace is peer to peer and strictly at your own risk.

Now that being said, if you have some even mildly savvy friends, it’ll be easy to track the guy down. I know what I would do if I was in your position.

Wow, been considering buying a last gen system as an upgrade on marketplace but everything working and being stable has been my concern. 🙁

I’ve been somewhat tempted to buy a used 3090 on eBay but am paranoid about this happening.

You should’ve known as soon as you seen the profile pic

  13. I love how no one mentions the PCI-E being literally broken

Well, maybe it’s because I live in South America, but I’ll never buy anything without testing it first đŸ€Š

Perhaps contact your bank and do a charge back? If it’s possible
