doesn’t really mean much, that was just luck, the bullets that got Jackie could have hit V too.
but it’s true, Jackie was a gonk here, pushing for this stupid heist that was doomed before it even began, and there’s a reason V keeps bringing “are you happy now Jackie” a few times during the escape.
Haphazard_Praxis
I mean, Jackie was obviously more the brute force type but ultimately it was bad luck that got him, not anything he actually did wrong. Could just as easily have been V bleeding out after that fall.
sky7897
Jackie was too thick to be a good merc. Annoyed me how he kept blowing the cover in Konpeki by shouting nonsense loudly.
Nice guy though
Ukezilla_Rah
It was intimated that Jackie wasn’t on par with V by Dex. Although, if you play Corpo life path then it kinda doesn’t fit. In that life path V and Jackie not only know each other but have worked tough jobs before and Jackie even got V out of a jam on a previous mission.
Reign0ff34r
No. But for at least 6 months (depending on lifepath) he was a great friend.
ilovesextitties2
To be fair, if you really think about it the relic only allows him to take on more cyberware and other upgrades easily, and really doesn’t upgrade him all that much. Even at the beginning of the game when you have next to nothing you’re still able to pretty much singlehandedly fight through an entire maelstrom hideout
Edit: in short, v is just a natural badass
HeavensHellFire
V got killed by a random bodyguard and a retired fat dude that doesn’t even fight.
Jackie got hit by the hovercraft that shoots at you when you slide down the tower. Entirely luck.
C1t1z3nCh00m
Misty warned him to avoid anything red.
fantaribo
Good dude, bad merc
Tazeel
Clearly Jackie should have kept some healing puffers on them. It’s always felt weird to me carrying bullet heal all infinitely in my pocket but Jackie just dieing from a gunshot by bleedout.
Legolasamu_
One can be a good at something and still fail. The plan was flawed and honestly they were just unlucky
MessEnnger
Jackie is shown to be pretty competent no? Like he’s obviously a bit of a himbo but he is shown to hold his own.
jbruff
Jackie AND V were shit Merc’s in the beginning. The heist was a terrible idea. No amount of planning would make that a good gig. The only way a theft like that would stay on the DL is if only 1 person survived. Anyone with any brains would have been able to anticipate Dex was gonna do everything he could to make sure he was the one standing. V was much more cool and collected under pressure though.
I get the concept of risking it for the biscuit though, but they both rolled the dice, V won, Jackie lost. It’s just that simple.
DonRex7
Well he did have a run of a few months worth of mercenary work with V before the Arasaka heist and it seemed to be going fine. Too small time for the afterlife sure, but better than a lot of other small time mercs if they were doing jobs for Padre and Wakako. Granted, that doesn’t make him a “good” merc by any measure, but certainly not a bad one.
Plane-Education4750
He was a great Merc. We never see him fail a job, even the one that kills him. But he was a terrible judge of character
v1c1kk
jackie was a dumb fella
Honorsheets
V was murdered by his fixer and a brute and thrown in the garbage.
Jackie caught a stray (or multiple) in the gut and fought out of Arasaka and escaped Adam Smasher.
TBug was fried by Norton Antivirus.
V, TBug, and Jackie are all garbage and if things were normal, they’d just be another 6th page story about NC eating more mercs lol.
Sir-Cellophane
Let’s just ignore how Jackie helps V rip through entire teams of elite Arasaka forces with nothing but a couple of pistols while mortally wounded on his way out of Konpeki Plaza.
alphawolf0805
Look, they were both decent mercs. But this was a job that needed WAY more than decent. V just got lucky to have the Relic + Dex’s low caliber gun to keep him outside the pearly gates.
AnotherWhiteHero
Jackie was a much bigger target for the drones while jumping. V just got lucky slash is the player character.
urmyleander
Did you confuse Konpeki Plaza with Arasaka Tower or are you just referencing Corpo Life path V who arguably would have been offed by Arasaka were it not for Jackie’s presence?
OnlyHereForComments1
Jackie is a gonk.
Jackie is also *incredibly* tough and strong, able to handle twin desert-eagle style weapons with dual wielding, take what I’m pretty sure was a .50 cal round to the gut and a multi-story fall without dying immediately, fight through a small army of chromed-up hardasses in the form of Maelstrom, and generally seems to be highly skilled in combat.
Add in the fact he makes friends with most everybody, even in situations he kinda shouldn’t be, and yeah: Jackie was a pretty solid merc. Absolutely not the brightest bulb and probably too starry-eyed for his own good, but when the shit happens, he’s been presented as pretty consistently dependable.
Probably a decent stat spread with INT and LUCK as dump stats, because he’s beefy, emotionally intelligent, quick at combat, good with tools, and very good at swaying people (see: Nomad and Streetkid Vs, plus the standoff in Corpo’s prologue).
Paradox31426
Nah, even before the Heist he was about to lose his lunch over some bodies in a Scav haunt, and he nearly got you both killed because he doesn’t like Maelstrom. Not to mention his complete lack of professionalism at literally every turn.
The Jackster was in the wrong line of business, he should’ve stayed a ‘tinos thug, he would’ve lived to a ripe old age shaking down Heywood businesses and mugging corpos.
jerenstein_bear
The only difference between V dying and Jackie dying is luck. A roll of the dice and the situation would have been reversed.
FatAnorexic
Lesson you’ll learn in life: It’s all luck of the draw. Skill and preparedness does nothing to simply being in the sights. Anyone could be in the path. That bullet went on that trajectory, and Jackie happened to be in the way. That’s it honestly. The stupidity and lack of skill is shown in taking such an obviously terrible job to begin with. Tale as old as time: Young kids needing to prove themselves.
Sungarn
Jackie didn’t have the brain to be a “good” merc, he had the brawn to be a decent merc but that only takes you so far.
Connect-Initiative64
Just look at the Konpeki plaza heist and see how he acts, ESPECIALLY if you are the Corpo V.
Corpo V is in her element, hell I wouldn’t be shocked if she’s been there herself before, either for business or pleasure. All Jackie has to do is keep his mouth closed and let V do the talking, and he doesn’t.
He tries to start up a fake conversation, which he fails at as he stumbles around awkwardly trying to make himself feel better (it was entirely due to his nerves, not because he thought he had to actually speak), got upset when/if Corpo V acts like a corpo to make the receptionist drop her questions (Unprofessional, it’s a gig, V’s in their element, why are you upset a receptionist got treated like shit *on a heist?)* and then leading forward he speaks *while we are hiding from Adam fucking Smasher*, albeit that’s on both of them so… yeah.
He’s not a good merc, he was barely in the game before he died. He only ever got into the Afterlife because of Dex… someone every real merc and fixer didn’t like and didn’t respect due to his previous fuck-ups.
Make no mistake, I love Jackie, he’s the best Choom in the game… but I can’t lie to myself about him.
KnightAngelic
In the corpo life path intro, Jackie was “the only merc V trusted,” and managed to help V walk away from Arasaka counterintel division /alive/ by intimidating the hit squad that was sent after V.
Fight me.
VaerionTheBane
So we’re just gonna ignore jackie survived that long after being shot by an arasaka gunship? Did you see the motherf’in caliber of those shots ?
Faded1974
Jackie was just an everyday goofball. Not a bad character at all but I’m always surprised how attached and emotional people got over him. He wasn’t built for that shit. Should have stayed in his lane.
lilkillalou2323
Here’s a thing that always bothered me people think before the heist v was the weakest person alive which is clearly not true. The relic makes V a god yeah but before that he wasn’t bad at all he wiped out a maelstrom hideout after they freshly raided a load of weapons from militech. V also as you said fought out of kompeki plaza. While I don’t think v was as close to the legend they are now I don’t think v was one of those street thugs people compare them to v clearly had some decent skill and was underrated.
jakeypooh94
Jackie died from bad luck in my opinion, V just as easily could have gotten hit in that barrage of bullets. Jackie made it out of Kompeki after robbing the most powerful family in the world, while bleeding out, and got the job done
Capybarasarecool69
I will say that V gets by on luck for almost the whole first act.
