Following the mind-blowing release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, iconic game developer Hideo Kojima has urged the games industry to create something “really new”.

While the video game auteur works on his next two projects, his horror game OD and Metal Gear Solid successor Physint, Kojima confirmed that he will not be playing through the upcoming remake of his PS2 classic Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

    > When asked if he would be playing the remake from the company that famously fired him, Kojima reportedly laughed and said: “No, I won’t”.

    >Alongside potential grudges with Konami, the game developer discussed his inherent boredom with the current games industry. Recalling the recent Summer Games Fest, the game creator is said to have been “disappointed about the state of his industry” as every game blends into each other.

    >“Even the visuals and the systems are pretty much the same,” the Metal Gear Solid creator said, “and a lot of people enjoy this, I understand, but it is important to put something really new in there for the industry.”

He really brought “something really new” into the industry when released Death Stranding. Don’t get me wrong, but what’s the next step he made?

    A direct sequel.

To be fair Konami tried to make a Metal Gear without Kojima and we got whatever the fuck Survive was supposed to be.

I’m guessing without Kojima they don’t have anybody that has any clue what to do with the series at this point, so all they can do is just fall back on making money off remaking the old beloved games.

I was more interested in the part of the interview where he saw summer games fest and had the same crash out most of us had about it.

    >Watching Summer Games Fest, a popular trailer marathon for gamers, Kojima felt like everything previewed involved fighting an alien monster or a medieval monster. “Even the visuals and the systems are pretty much the same,” he laments

Maybe now geoff’s shows won’t all be gacha games and 15 souls clones. If he’ll listen to anyone it’s kojima.

  5. Tbh I feel like Kojima is hugely overrated. Just an edgy contrarian who got lucky.

  6. FrogQuestion

I’m working on it Mr. Kojima. Of course, it’s not going to be mainstream enough to even catch your attention

  7. Yeah, exactly Konami has been handing out zero creativity

I wouldn’t say I want the industry to do something completely new… I just don’t want to play MGS3 again, just prettier.

I’d be ridiculously interested in a new entry or a full on reboot, but not a remake. Maybe I’d be interested if it was a full blown remake of the first MG or MGS.

  9. Cloud_N0ne

    What a pretentious fuck.

I too want to see the industry doing new things, but if someone were remaking my game I’d play it just to see how it compares.

  10. Citycen01

He’s not wrong, I’m playing it because I never finished it, but I hate that I will give money to Konami.

  11. datNorseman

Well, I agree with his statement. Devs should try to be more original. It’s just that coming from his time to now, how is one supposed to be completely original while adhering to the current market’s consumers? Current gamers want more of what’s old. If something is new and unique, then that is extremely rare, and they might not be sure that they enjoy it. Statistically speaking, remasters/remakes tend to work, because they appeal to an audience that already exists.

  12. LegendOfParasiteMana

Like half of Death Stranding 2 is a MGS clone. What is Kojima on about?

  13. magicscreenman

I’m sure it has NOTHING to do with how his relationship with Konami ended.

He said he wouldn’t do it, the same way I say I won’t do many things in public and then do them. And even act outraged when I see them knowing I do the very same things. I bet he’ll at least fool around with it but I can understand if it’s a painful thing for him to do, given their treatment. I think Kojima has always been very forward facing and creative but he’s wrong about how great it can be to revisit past releases if only for the sake of doing so. I wouldn’t say of a book or film that another version of it is bad because it isn’t anything new; that’s crazy talk. No, I may not be interested, but it’s not stopping others from doing something new. Not everyone needs to work on something new and exciting. Often those releases do happen and they go ignored. Usually for good reason.

But this is all from a guy who’s working on another stealth game and whose creative release in *Death Stranding* is fairly inexplicable, and which just got a pretty standard sequel. It’s certainly new territory but it’s also a little out there.

Would you go back and bang your ex after your friend married her?

  16. LeekTerrible

Because the game industry has become like the movie industry. They aren’t going to take any risks and will just play safe bets for profits. The smaller companies that are taking risks are making headlines but they don’t care until the bottom line gets impacted.

  17. Kommander-in-Keef

When I found out it was basically a pretty 1:1 version I was a lil disappointed. If they own the rights and they’re gonna be doing that, why not do a remake of something no one’s played like I don’t know Peace Walker maybe?? That game was awesome but it was limited to PSP users.

  18. Aspire_2_Be

Breaking: Kojima had pancakes today for breakfast.

    Who gives a damn.

  19. TheyStillLive69

How was the new ds mindblowing? From what I’ve heard it seems like it somewhat abandoned what made the first one unique in favour of being more open for the everage gamer?

  20. Upbeat-Berry1377

sounds like he’s bitter than Konami is remaking MGS2 without him

  21. Colombia17

IMO Expedition 33 was refreshing and different from most games that came out recently

  22. goodguygreg808

I just want MGO3 with snake vs 2 teams. MGO in Metal Gear solid 4 was my favorite MP game for a long time.

  23. Federal_Setting_7454

Kojima just likes making cool shit

  24. alpacawrangler16

Ironic considering he did nothing new with Death Stranding 2

  25. As much as I respect Mr Kojima these games were my childhood. I hope they remake them all and it sucks he isn’t a part of it.

  26. cyberspaceman777

    Tbh, I won’t either.

This is a shameless cash grab.

  27. CutMeLoose79

The direction we’re headed, outside of indies, we will see less and less risks and less and less game innovation. The gaming industry is going the same direction as cinema where only safe bets and the best franchises will be sure money makers. Subscription services have played a HUGE part in the decline of cinema and it will undoubtedly have the same effect long term in gaming.

  28. Zanena001

    > Wishes to see the industry do something really new

    > Makes Death Stranding

  29. CountySurfer

Not totally wrong but also becoming really insufferable.

  30. hellraiser29

Pretty sure he’s just offended and salty more than anything. It would have been nice if Konami brought Kojima and his engine on board for the remake.
