It feels weird to consider a game that sold 10m copies in the first month a disappointment but since that milestone the game has only sold about 470k copies. It sold less last quarter than devil may cry….4 (as well as a bunch of other games).

During the quarter that ended June 30, Wilds sales had fallen by more than 95% from its launch quarter, leaving the landmark release Capcom's 9th best-selling title for the quarter

The stock was down almost 10% after the financial report.

  1. I don’t give a flying shit about their stock, they need to pull their head out of their ass with that stupid engine and fix it.

  2. GSDAkatsuki

Kind of expected after all the negative reaction post release. They’ve also continued to not really address the issues and ignore/hide from discussing the performance problems.

  3. And fucking fix dragons dogma 2, goddamnit. I bought that game knowing Capcom would do right by it. After this I’m done

  4. ninjahathori

Curious if it’s a gameplay issue or just bad timing against other releases.

  5. Redfeather1975

If every publisher and shareholder died, the gaming industry would still keep on trucking. It might even flourish. Actually it would definitely flourish.

  6. Citycen01

I haven’t played in a few months. Planning on coming back once the August patch hits.

  7. Maybe if they actually try to care about players, game optimization and anything other than dlc packs

  8. The game performance on launch was not great, and it’s gotten worse. The lack of actual difficult fights at end game left long time players not much to do once they finished their builds. The pace at which they’re adding new fights seems slower than Rise or World. I probably won’t go back to it until the expansion brings Master Rank.

    Good!

Fail Capcom, Fail! Sick of the bullshit stunts they keep pulling then just move onto the next IP to fuck up and expect people to just forgive and buy the next product.

I don’t believe in Capcom anymore. I hope this scares them enough to start taking launches seriously again. Glad this is happening.

  10. Chardan0001

Honestly the DD2 release just turned me off Capcom. I gave Wilds a look and it just seemed to be heavily railroaded while also running like slurry half the time. Whatever the series is now it has its own fans.

  11. ShopCartRicky

I really liked Wilds, until the endgame. Performance didn’t bother me as much as the content at endgame.

  12. This is what happens when a Game is hyped, everyone wants it and then is frustrated by its performance. I really don’t give a damn about their excuses – I don’t care how it’s a technical marvel and we should appreciate it. If people can’t play your game, no one will buy your game nor will they tell people to buy said game. Maybe it affecting their pockets actually causes them to pull up their damn pants and do something about it and give their Developers enough time to do so.

  13. Perhaps making games that run well is a factor to consider

  14. MySunIsSettingSoon

Good, now get back to that Dragons Dogma 2 DLC that you never started

  15. TheOneWithALongName

Resident Evil next year will fix it.

  16. SloppityMcFloppity

It’s fine. They’ll just release another monster hunter that runs at 5 FPS, and gamers will eat it up.

  17. TheSilentTitan

Boohoo, do better and you won’t be having this problem.

  18. Yeah I wanted to buy this because a bunch of my friends also bought it at launch but I tried the demo on steam and it wouldnt go above 45 FPS and plummeted into the mid 20s in populated areas… Yeah I’ll wait until this shit is fixed

  19. Jebus-san91

I bought it and played it and could get it to work using mod to run DLSS and FSR3 framegen which i thought was extreme or just an ageing 3080ti but then after DD2 running poorly and how long that took to work “better” i though ahhhh this is fucked whats the point so im not surprised.

I’ve no idea their inner workings but i’d of taken the negativity on performance and focused on that to get its rep back.

  20. SeanSMEGGHEAD

I think while performance is an issue on PC, the game has other issues.

    Lacking endgame for one.

Monster Hunter World just had me more engaged. Fights end far too quickly (even the difficult fights). No exploration and the “open world” being mechanically no different from zones in previous games now with the added performance tax.

While I like the mount thematically, gameplay wise it takes away from player input and exploration.

I really dislike the engine. Textures are blurry and colours are too muted/filtered.

I really don’t care for the story and those characters especially the boy.

  21. CarlitoNSP1

It’s funny how many people here are talking about how poorly the RE engine is performing for certain games, yet every time I go to certain groups they say “THIS COMPANY NEEDS TO MAKE THEIR OWN ENGINE TO SUCCEED LIKE CAPCOM AND SEGA DID!”

  22. Edrunner2049

This is what they get for releasing a half assed game. Content and performance wise.

  23. RagePrime

Does Capcom not understand “market saturation”?

You sold 10M copies. You think the damned thing is going to sell a million a quarter for the rest of time?

  24. bizarrequest

I know a lot of people skipping it because of performance issues. I own it and run it on a 4090 and put it down because of performance also.

  25. Wi11iams2000

Good to see a shitty port getting the scrutiny it deserves. Regardless if the game is good or not, the bare minimum is to deliver the software in a playable state, stable without major bugs… but here we are, this fucking accursed industry. It was a matter of time, linear corridor games in the Re Engine looks amazing, but at the moment Capcom jumped to open world, the engine crumbled, a shame really

  26. I really dont know how a game selling 10 mil copies craters a companys stock lol

  27. Kitakitakita

they tried everything but optimizing the game

  28. Power0fTheTribe

I don’t think I’ve ever felt so betrayed by a studio as much as I felt with Wilds… what a letdown of a game. It had so much potential

  29. PTSDDeadInside

What is game companies optimize their PC games to run on a 1050 instead of stuttering on a 4090 maybe more people would play them I don’t know?

  30. Definitely the reports of bugs and performance issues plus too much else to play.

I fully intend to play this but no time right now.

  31. This is why you shouldn’t preorder. Even though the initial sales were strong, it doesn’t take long for the word to spread that it was an unoptimised mess.

A lot of people watch influencers and if they say it’s cooked, many will listen until it’s fixed.

  32. Tuberculosis206

Why did sales of the game crater? I thought it was a mega popular series? – Honestly asking.

  33. Masquerosa

The game sold as many copies at launch as its past titles sold over their lifetime. I’m not surprised to see it drop off. I’m curious what the player count is on all consoles though.

At least on Steam, 10,000 concurrent players for a game that big is pretty awful, especially when there’s half as many people still playing World (and a decent population on Rise).

  34. _Spectre0_

Wilds is too unstable for me, crashing with some dxgi device hung error that no other game gets, so it keeps my negative review and my regret from buying on release. I did manage to finish everything prior to the first TU and it was fun, but just has terrible technical qualities.

I’m planning to just go back and finish world soon. I started it and got up to iceborne, then stopped because I didn’t want to burn out before wilds. That was a mistake. Should have just waited 3 years for a sale and all the issues to be fixed. And therein lies the problem and the reason for their stock tanking lol

  35. EdgarLasu

It’s just so damn casual it’s not even a Monster Hunter game. Even the casuals are bored of it.

  36. NoireResteem

It’s a shame. It’s a really good game, all be it simplifies the lead up to the hunt a little too much but yeah the performance just keeps getting worse. They really need to get their shit together

  37. SH4DY_XVII

Good. Fuck MHW. Worst Monster Hunter game I’ve played. Mainstream chasing over simplified bullshit slop, and the performance is hot dog water.

  38. Wish_Lonely

Seems like they’re pulling a Square Enix lmao.

  39. Well maybe if they’d start optimizing their games they’d sell better. Just an idea

  40. Plastic_Young_9763

As a monster hunter fan since freedom 1, me refusing to buy wilds felt like the guy shooting the tank with the pistol… AND IT WORKED!?!

  41. Learned my lesson. No more MH for me. I’ll stick with RE

  42. I just need more content. That’s all the game needs: more robust content.

    It is far too short.

  43. CloudsTasteGeometric

This is absurd. Monster Hunter Wilds was a huge sales success. The post-launch support has been weak, and sales reflect that **but players and gamers at large do not see Monster Hunter as an Always-On/Evergreen/Live Service title.**

Its Monster Hunter – not Destiny ffs.

Its clear that someone on the sales or marketing team sold some clueless exec on the idea that Monster Hunter will prop up and produce a continuous revenue stream to plug the hole of a completely barren 2025 release schedule.

Non-gaming idiot execs love the fool themselves into treating game releases like streaming services or continual sources of revenue, when 9/10 of they just AREN’T. But it does a lot to prop up stock values if you can convince investors that the revenue model exists in that way…when it just doesn’t.

I’ve worked in the industry for 10 years and this is absurd. They should be over the moon that it moved 10 million units in the first place…and then be moving onto a brisker output schedule on the NEXT primary release – be it RE, Monster Hunter, DMC, what have you.

This kind of thinking leads to Concorde-like decision making.

  44. Thank god, mh wilds profited from worlds and rise being good. Mh wilds is waaay too stripped down and casualized of what made monster hunter , monster hunter.

Fucking boring walking and talking sections in a MH game???? GTFO
