It’s interesting that this arm-wrestle, Schwarzenegger-style, bro handshake has suddenly become the only handshake in the CS esports scene. For the longest time, maybe all of time, there were so many types of handshakes used during the post-match LAN GGs. There were fistbumps, lots of fistbumps, but also regular handshakes and bro handshakes. The first guys walking into the LAN GG handshake line would awkwardly figure out how they were going to handshake. Whatever they decided on was what everyone else in the line did as well.

But then something happened. At some point in the past several months, *every single LAN GG handshake became the bro handshake*. Nobody is awkwardly figuring out which handshake to use. They all just use this one single handshake. They are even doing it when greeting each other in other situations, like this one in the video.

To be honest, using the bro handshake does seem a little awkward for LAN GGs. They are frequently leaning over a desk to do the handshake. It seems too slow for what should be something quick. A fistbump seems better. When I was playing sports as a kid, we always did high fives really quickly.

I’m not sure why, after all these decades, the bro handshake killed off every other form of LAN GG handshake. There must be some kind of environmental pressure that arose during the past year which exerted a darwinian selection effect on the LAN GG handshake, causing all but the bro-handshake to go extinct. Perhaps I should do more research into this phenomenon.
