For gaming specifically:
Windows: mostly works but all your data is being harvested
Linux: works great, when it works, which isn’t a given
Mac: lol good luck

Nah with Linux its “most things work except some will never work” Like proper HDR, AMD and Nvidia driver apps, good hardware control software for overclocking, photoshop and games with harsh kernel level anticheat.

This is why I still sometimes look back at Windows 7.
Used it for what? 14 years, till I had to upgrade since they’ve pulled the plug and suppourt on everything.
Still booting it up sometimes for certain applications on another SSD.
Only thing Windows 10 was/is better though is with some certain things update related and more or less the automatic installer for the software.
But yea, oh and Windows XP.
…
I sound older then I am but, I wish there were still ways for at least 7, but now 10 being phased out too, I slwoly turn into one of those people who just want to have it all to work and lese wise to not more deal with IT related issues overall. :/

Never tried linux except the fact my custom os called CybyOS is based off it
Windows works fine and would be perfect if Microsoft did not own it and fill it with Spyware
MacOS I only have used on those computers of display in stores and I like the user interface and how fast it is but I dont know if much programs would support it since it’s apple

I’m getting ready to try Bazzite for my next build. I’ve still got a Windows rig for all the software that I’ll be locked out of, but God damn has Windows gotten bad. I figure if I’m already going to be struggling, I might as well struggle with something interesting.

I bought my first PC (486 dx2/66) in 1995 with DOS 6.2 and Windows 3.1. About 4 years later I bought Suse Linux 6.2, the thing with the 500+ page instruction manual included.
I followed every step, one by one, after reading most of the tome beforehand and the thing deleted my MBR, rendering my Windows Install unrecoverable.
Never tried again.

I just use Windows and then use one of those tools that decluter it.
I dont have a single relevant problem with Windows in years tbh.
I know your milage may vary, but I dont really feel the need to change for another os. Maybe eventually try Steam os or something like that.

How the hell is it possible that the vast majority of PC gamers will gladly spend hundreds of hours watching 47 “Ultimate Build Guides”, reading endless forum wars, and debating whether a 0.3% FPS difference makes a GPU “garbage”, all while assembling their glass aquarium cases like they’re building a shrine to RGB gods? Yet, the moment they’re asked to learn a different operating system than the one they’ve been spoon-fed since birth, they suddenly devolve into the single most helpless lifeforms ever to disgrace the planet. Maybe if they spent less time vacuuming up glass shards from their “premium showcase cases” and arguing over imaginary performance gains, they might actually manage to click through a new menu without bursting into tears. This over-the-top OS bigotry isn’t just stupid, it’s full-blown performance art.

Thing about linux (and this is from personal experience) is that. everything would be going so smoothly and so great until you run into those TWO PROGRAMS you didn’t realize you rely on them THAT much until you started using linux and found out you can’t have them and the open source replacements kinda just. ain’t the same…
I’d argue almost everything on windows 10 works well. It’s the best operating system I’ve used since Win7.

I swapped to linux a few months ago. It works the same as windows. I face the exact same problems, I just have to learn a new way to fix them. Sometimes games don’t launch just like in Windows, I google how to fix it and then I fix it.
One thing I like is it launches and works much faster. I’m using a pretty bloated distro (nobara) and there is still less crap installed compared to windows.
I find that heroic actually runs better than the Epic launcher. Through steam all games work out of the box (other than one game which required me to add a launch argument). I swapped to linux at the same time my friend group was playing Siege so I just had to dual boot back into windows for that. No big deal.
My main unresolved issue is a current kernel bug that causes my displays to freeze. 6.16 fixes this apparently but I am waiting for a distro update. I’m using an AMD gpu.
Some of the other issues I faced was that I couldn’t drag files to upload them in discord. This forced me to learn what a “flatpack” actually was and how they differ from a normal package. It’s been cool to learn something new and I’d recommend anyone to just buy a 2tb ssd and install linux on it even just so you can see how similar it (KDE) is to windows.
