For me, they seem the biggest and scariest threat in the whole series.
Would you like them to be main antagonists of the sequel?

If the Blackwall ever comes down it’ll make the aftermath of the Bartmoss crash look like summer camp…everybody’s fucked.

If certain theories are true they’re already making their moves behind the scenes.

Not as much as our world. Massively in danger, but the net is not as interwoven as our Internet, it’s more like.. Islands?
It depends how fast people can burn the bridges connecting them. But a large margin of digital infrastructure is actually very isolated, hence runners need to be at the place to get a port or alt having to get the door opened to mikoshi (well, plus Blackwall).
But yeah, 80% of people will be royally fucked

I dunno… the terror also originates from what we’re being told, and if you look at how Alt managed to manifest herself and even survive in that madness… Also interesting is how V wasn’t ripped to shreds either after passing the blackwall, even for a moment.
Now, that last comment may not be a fair one considering that there isn’t much of a reason for any of the rogue AI’s to care about V in the first place, but still… doesn’t seem that they’re really bothering themselves with the blackwall either.

the whole world would be fucked up not only NC…

Terrifying in the sense that it is a totally made up thing that relies on the whim and plot direction of writers and not on reality in the manner in which you are taking it to be, yes

Do we know it hasn’t? That it’s still doing it’s job doesn’t mean it’s doing it the way we need it too or doing it for us.
Why break and fight when you can shape and control?

My question is why are AI semi-magical in cyberpunk
mystireon
Kinda comes with the territory. In the original story that essentially kicked off the cyberpunk genre, Neuromancer, there’s a pretty big chunk of the plot dedicated to the dangers AI can pose to humanity and how it could end up controlling everything, and it’s something that has more or less stuck with the genre ever since.
Similarly to how all fantasy has giant spiders now cuz of Lord of the Rings

I always assumed they were on par with being almost Lovecraftian, eldritch horror abominations beyond our understanding

I remember meeting “Alt” for the first time during my very first playthrough, and immediately thinking “This one’s bad news. She’s not on our side.”

It’s not just Night City that’s screwed if they escape, it’s the entire planet.

Songbird and Alt being the “good” AIs, that help V overcome the other AIs that were freed from the Blackwall. Later establishing a new “blackwall”.
This would be the only way humanity (everyone with Chrome) would survive, since the blackwall (the powers that come with the blackwall) can just deep fry everyone that has Chrome or implants…

Did anyone else here read the thing in the game where a city in Korea had their whole population wiped out? I know i was really high playing the game, but I didn’t imagine that right?
alex_timeblade
It would be super interesting to see a game where you have to fight against some AIs plot, but the only way you can actually get the “good” ending is if you never chipped in.
They would easily take control of anything cybernetic. It would be like the TTRPG version of Smasher, every ending is just you getting slaughtered. Only by not having anything they can use against you would you have a chance.

Not really. The most powerful AI in the world is helpless against an air gap

I’ve never played the helping Reed ending until today and fuck, that robot section is a complete survival horror game
