AI vs human-made. In the game industry, the debate between them is becoming more controversial every day. What do you think about replacement of AI in the game industry?

AI is a tool best used by a person.

Replacing the person with a tool won’t end well.

  2. Motawa1988

It’s „just“ a new very powerful tool. For the next decade at least

  3. MisterB78

I still think the biggest problem is that it’s built on the unauthorized use of a ton of artists’ work.

AI will replace the real time artist? I will wonders never cease! haahhaha

  5. I am sure everybody still builds their 3d models in a text editor, vertex coordinate by vertex coordinate? If there is a better tool people will use it, it’s that simple.

  6. killer22250

But black ops 6 already uses AI and replaced artists

  7. Jammer_Jim

Yahtzee suggested it could be a tool that freed creative people from doing tedious things, and should not be used to try and allow tedious people to be creative. He may have been quoting someone else, I don’t recall for sure.

It’s true. I am forced heavily into AI and while it does totally improve some tasks efficiency (especially when it can autofill a page with some template I would normally have to write out), it’s also completely useless in most other ways.

In fact, I’d call it dangerous. It’s like a Jr hyped to prove themselves and ready to make changes they do not understand the context behind.

  9. *”The high-school kid labourers (who, fairly, are great at tedious tasks) have seen everyone else do their jobs, so we’re going to fire our carpenters and electricians and drywallers and painters, and just have the labourers do everyone’s jobs”*

    – the *developer* of a custom home that’ll immediately fall down

Doesnt matter the industry, you cant just replace skilled workers/artists who are supposed to be collaborating on a major project that users will actually have to see and use and deal with

Crap right now… give it another 5 years

Facts. AI can copy, but it can’t feel That’s why human made hits different

  12. We’re still at the beginning. If he thinks that generative AI is not gonna progress any further than this, he’s an idiot

  13. JoJosMagicJumper

AI is a great tool. A screwdriver is also a great tool. But both are worthless without someone to use them to make stuff with.

I mean, just looking at something like picture creation. You need the talent to feed in a prompt that gets out what you want. If you dont have that talent, you end up with a mess of 6 fingered penises instead of a lush vibrant forest you were aiming for.

Is that news? An artist thinks Ai art is bad?

It is, but that’s probably the most biased source you can get lol

  15. It’s almost like…. we’ve been saying this since fall of 2023 when LLMs and generative AI first hit the mainstream?

    Garsh.

  16. Crystal_Voiden

Wish the law required games to disclose the use of AI art. I wouldn’t buy a game with that label. But the US legislature is in shambles rn, so hoping EU saves the day once again.

  17. ye and itll never get better either. these visionaries are right, AI is like the internet. its a fad that will never catch on..

  18. dustofdeath

If your skill level is below what AI can do, it’s time to educate yourself.

There are a lot of people who are good at talking themselves better and creating the illusion of doing a lot of work.

Likewise people who refuse to use AI as a tool, will get replaced and left behind.

  19. RedPillTears

The fact that this needs to be said… when AI is created by humans.

Idk what happened but the world got dumb as shit this decade. I guess COVID really did a number on collective intelligence.

  20. owenturnbull

    Isn’t rockstar using ai??

Companies will use ai bc it means they can save money that’s all they csre about.

Level 5 is also using ai.

If people dont want ai in games you dont support those developers at all.

And the current devs and companies using it are level 5, mircosoft and maybe Rockstar.

So if yoy dont wsnt ai in games actually get a backbone and dont support those devs and companies.

If you support knowing full well they use ai you are the problem and enjoy your slop

  21. heart_of_osiris

Oh the artist says AI cant replace people? Wishful thinking.

The companies will decide that… and theyre more than willing to use AI slop instead of pay an artist.

  22. Night-_-Train

I’ll wait until the geniuses at Nintendo and Capcom use it. It’s a tool that in the right hands I’m guessing we’ll truly see what it’s capable of. If it ends up being soulless crap, then it is just that. But, if Nintendo and others can come up with a unique way of using it…then it’s going to be crazy.

  23. MuffDivers2_

Wow what news! I have never heard that view from an artist before. I support artist but posts like this are dumb.

  24. Head in the sand coping. Look at the progress AI is making in art can to act like its not going to match and surpass humans at it soon is laughable.

  25. As every new tool, it has its uses and it can boost productivity significantly. It can also be abused leading to bad results. AI not inherelty bad.

  26. Significant_Walk_664

He is right. Doesn’t mean some ignorant, greedy prick won’t try anyway.

  27. CanaDoug420

Unfortunately a lot of people are willing to buy crap. So it’s still cheaper to replace people with AI crap. People will still buy it

  28. Being able to use ai for tedious tasks would be amazing but it’s exactly the other way round. AI is used for creative stuff and we have to do the tedious stuff.
