70% Of Destiny 2’s Top Contest Mode Clearing Raid Teams Cheated

Normally it’s Bungie that does the cheating (i.e. stealing artwork from artists without giving them credit).

Online gaming is horrible nowadays. Damn near every game is full of cheaters. Looking at you especially Apex.

  3. More evidence the game is dying. I was a pretty frequent player until Lightfall; haven’t been back since.

  4. Riparian72

I mean they fired half of the security team so what did they expect?

I’ll never understand how people can find cheating fun

This was why I quit D2 ultimately way back at the 2nd expansion.

The end-tier of the game was increasingly catering only to people who no lifed the game. have a job? Friends? Family? Other games or hobbies? Fuck you. Make D2 your life or you will be a second class player. Environments like that always become toxic cesspools and hackerfests. I’ve never seen it go any other way.

So I checked out and every time D2 comes back into my awareness I feel completely vindicated in my decision.

  7. Fuck cheaters but that’s what you get when contest mode for this raid was poorly designed

Im not making excuses for cheating but…If Bungie had actually put a single ounce of thought into all of their system changes that completely gutted the feel of the game, then maybe people wouldn’t resort to “other” methods…

The saddest part when you think about this is that its a PvE activity but they fumbled so bad that it cause that many people to just say fuck it.

  9. Ever since they literally locked items I ALREADY HAD behind a DLC in Destiny 1 I knew not to touch anything Bungie anymore.
But cheating in any online game right now is insane and sad

    What a joke.

This game and company is a complete husk of its former self as well.

Glad I quit the game. The new expansion is a dogshit cashgrab that walked back most of their QoL from the past few years in the effort to increase the meaningless grind.

    Stay away from this game.

  11. Destiny devs: We don’t support Linux because everyone there cheats (LOL).

Top Destiny players: Everyone cheats anyway.

  12. Its also actively boycotted by /r/destinythegame to talk about. I tried to create a post and it is still “under moderation” as well as I know some other people who wanted to post about it. It’s a pitty that the subreddit is subject to censorship.

  13. It’s not really a game for people with self-respect or dignity, to be expected.

  14. vanilla_disco

I don’t play online shooters anymore because of this. Even top streamers are using recoil scripts and subtle aim bots.

  15. Radiant_Cat_1337

This is always my major concern with online games. One is always at a higher risk of being cheated by a rival who is playing the game.

I mean playing games should be fun and not players looking for ways to cheat.

Over the years I’ve really stepped away from fps shooters. If Battlefield 6 sucks I’m officially done with them.

  17. Who would have thought, huh?

Big name squads on Destiny have been known to be cheaters due to the “prestige” of day-1 clearing a new raid. Raid leaderboards have been meaningless because it a full circle-jerk of cheaters.

  18. And these are the same people who will complain about no good PvP in games after they killed it with cheats.

Choosing to trim dev support for Destiny in favor of building Marathon was such a massive mistake. During lockdown, I used to run Game Industry AMAs on Clubhouse and a regular was a PvP designer on Destiny who, all the way back in 2020, got pulled off Destiny to start working on their “unannounced title” (marathon).

Putting Destiny PvP on life support for 5 years because they wanted to build Marathon contributed to this death spiral.

  20. Impossible_Custard87

Yup, that’s why I don’t play it anymore.

Psst, whatever the MMO, or adjacent style, the raiders, are all cheating their asses off, even the World First crew. Cheating like crazy because the content made by these devs aren’t actually made for humans to complete, they’re optimized for said cheats being used because modern day MMO devs are incapable of making content out of the now quarter of a century model of instanced combat design.

Look at FFXIV or WoW, Cheating the whole hardest content on a daily basis while everyone else playing the game by the rules are left with a miserable and unfun package not meant for real people to play.

I know there’s going to be people down comment with “examples to the contrary” down my comment. And to that I say, I’m not saying this in a vacuum folks, I’ve been there, been part of it, seen it with my own eyes. You cheat, you all cheat and have convinced yourselves you’re also somehow superior while also using mods that trivialize vast swaths of the “challenge” (as it could even classify itself as such in the first place).

  22. SnoopynPricklyPete

FTP model is only accelerating this trend as who gaf if they get banned

  23. Wonderful_Grade_5476

They also got out viewed by Tenno con which was happening the same day

  24. I imagine most of those cheats were exploitation of bugs. Multiple raid groups reported a lot of negative bugs (for example, the memory leak leads to stuff being invisible, firing rates to drop, etc.) so it makes sense someone found a couple beneficial ones. Combine that with the extreme demands the contest mode made on performance and I’m not surprised this may have gone down.
