I guess they can afford to drop the prices of their games when they fire all their staff.

$70 and especially $80 price points are in a spot where they feel justified only in relatively niche scenarios.
It’s objectively a lot of money for a game offering less than 20 hours of entertainment. But at the same time, games that run forever mostly do so on the strength of multiplayer, where the dependence on asses in seats motivates a F2P model.
There are games like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Red Dead Redemption 2, where it *is* justifiable, but those games don’t come out very often.

thanks Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week
KarateMan749
Still outrageously expensive. Dropbot to $40 then people might look at it
DkoyOctopus
hahahaha cowards.
what did they expect? we went from 60 to 70 and to 80 in less than 4 years. do they really think people will support that? the average gamer buys 4 AAA tittle a year.

push that price to 80 and it will probs be 2 a year or they will absolutely wait for a sale/excellent reviews.
if anything this is great for indies who can carve a solid spot in the range of 60 bucks and bellow.
chance_of_grain
Nice. Still gonna wait for a 40% off sale lol
Beneficial_Dark7362
Remember they didn’t do this out of the kindness of their heart, they did it because no one was pre ordering that game. I also don’t think this was some United movement against these practices by gamers. The game just doesn’t look good enough to justify an $80 price point. GTA6 could charge 80 and most people would still pre order it in a heart beat. That kind of pisses me off though did they really think people were going to pay $80 for the standard edition of OUTERWORLDS?!?! Like outer worlds of all games like what the fuck have they done to justify that shit. The games graphics are mid as fuck and they’re barely innovating and there’s barely any hype around the game. $80 FUCKING DOLLARS for another mid obsidian game wtf were they on.
Kermez
Wow, I will buy 10 before they change their mind and raise price again!
Microsoft looking desperate as always with their failing games and consoles.

How benevolent.

I haven’t bought a single 70$ title on release, let alone 80$. Since the prices went up I almost always wait for sale (and patches).
SuperSaiyanIR
They could offer it for free and I still wouldn’t buy it buy it. I have literal hundreds upon hundreds of games in my library, amazing games most of them. Monet isn’t the only issue, it’s the time too. I literally just started the Witcher 3 last night and playing it alongside FFX, that’s this month and the next spoken for.
vandridine
The first game was so boring, idk how the sequel even got green lit, let alone being sold for 70 or 80 bucks
Possible-Gur5220
Good lord…$80 originally 🤯😵
Disastrous_Dress_201
If the length is anything like the first or Avowed, 70$ is way too much.
Hrmerder
I think you need to come down about $10-$15 there buddy. I feel like this sort of always happens to a point, the market crashes, then they throw their hands up in the air, go down by $10-$15 for a while, then move it back up $5. We have been yo-yoing like that for what feels like 20 years now.
metalvinny
I’d rather just go outside for the price of free.
ChefCurryYumYum
That’s fine by me, I was never going to buy this game at full price anyway.
But also from the article:
>as players are generally used to paying $70 for new releases.
Are we used to paying $70 for new releases? I have never spent $70 on a base game in my life.
And holy shit but the people who preordered at the higher price aren’t automatically getting the difference refunded, they have to request a refund in full and then re-buy the game. Crazy.
>Players who already placed a pre-order can request a refund and repurchase the game to save $10
Play_outStation_5
What was it before?…. Outer Worlds 1 was mid AF. Why would they increase the price?…. Aren’t you trying to create a new IP and make it popular?….
Dumb business decisions. It really makes me not trust them as a consumer. These numbers are based on imagination.

if expedition 33 can be 50 bucks no game has an excuse to be over 50-60$

From super overpriced to regular overpriced. Gee Xbox, you shouldn’t have!

Most likely why they dropped the price.
