It wasn’t just another shooter – it was the moment when cinematic storytelling and Bullet Time gameplay blended into something unforgettable.
I still remember that first rooftop scene in the rain… pure chills.

I still remember my brother renting an Xbox from Blockbuster just to play Max Payne on my parents giant Projector TV that weighed 800lbs.

Max Payne made me feel like I was in a graphic novel with a controller. The noir vibes, the voiceover, the rain.. ugh, peak atmosphere. Bullet Time changed the game

You can really see the Payne in his eyes💔💔

Sam Lake is truly one of the best creative directors in gaming imo.

How does this man look younger today than he did then?

  6. I remember loving this game AND the sequel. Never really got into the third though.

Nothing hit like that slow-mo dive with dual pistols back then!

Was never a fan of shooters but played the first two and loved them. Remember my first bullet time like it was yesterday.

This game is what made me fall in love with PC gaming. Amazing game.

Got the haunted eyes of someone who designed that damn dead baby maze level

I never played them but I heard remedy is remaking it. I also know it’s cheap on psn

Definitely was ground breaking at the time. I remember it was right around the time limewire and Kazaa came out. I had bootleg copies of max pain, quake 3, Wolfenstein 3d! And this was before they would lock out multiplayer.

My goodness it was so fun joining a match of wolfenstein with everyone running around with the flamethrower.

  17. Wow I remember having this and nocd.exe on a Cd-r and loading it on to every pc I built for myself, fiends, and family. I would do it to test out the graphics card and make sure everything was running smooth lol. 7th and 8th grade for me were wild times in the pc and gaming world

Definitely a game I shouldn’t have been allowed to play as a 8 year old lol. The very first level with his baby daughter and wife gave me nightmares for weeks, and then there were the actual nightmare segments, which didn’t help things either

The first two Max Payne games are wonderful, but i haven’t played the third one still, heard it was not as good?
