Stop Destroying Games, the initiative against planned obsolescence and destruction of video games, just crossed its stretch goal.
It collected 1'400'000 signatures! 1.4 million!
You can still sign until the end of the month. You just need to be a European citizen.

This initiative is a petition that follows the steps of an official EU process to ask the European Commission to take action to solve a problem.
It asks to find ways to allow people who have purchased a video game to be able to continue playing it after its publisher's end of support.
Until not too many years ago, what this petition is asking for was pretty much a given.
In fact, multiplayer games could also be played in LAN and on private servers.
These options have disappeared from many new games, why?
Because their publishers have found a very clever way to make us buy their new games.
Instead of making better ones, they just disable the old ones!
Will we be able to continue playing what we bought, even in 5 years?
If you feel that the answer must be "yes", I invite you to sign.

As a Norwegian, I wish I could sign this. It is a big yes from me. The fact that we even have to take this step is insane.. but I am cheering you on, let us hope EU puts and end to this shady practice!
The companies are tearing up blood hearing these news
I was there 2000 signatures only, 31/7 2024, we all laughed at this way back then.
People really seem to care about this one.
I honestly can’t remember the last time any real world politics issue got a petition with half this many signatures.

Honestly i’m surprised there aren’t more. surely there are more than 1.4mil gamers/people that would support this in all of the EU right?
I hate overregulation but it seems game companies can’t handle the responsibilities.
So yeah I signed it some time ago.
Get a new one going, soon we won’t be able to pay for anything online with credit cards.
1.4 million and counting, so much for this being a “niche tantrum. Looks like gamers really do care about owning what they buy. If the Commission takes this seriously, publishers will have two choices. Shipping offline/legacy options, or pour money into lobbying and hope we give up. I just signed and shared to my friends who curious to see which route they pick. Till 31th July, I really wonder how many of us will sign..
Keep going, the more the better
I think this was ”advertised” really badly. I live in Finland and i’m an avid gamer and heard about this like 3 weeks ago for the first time ever. A lot of people who i’ve spoken about this, have said that they also heard about it just weeks ago.
I back this 100%. Alas, I am a British lass living in the Czech Republic. I’ll get my husband to sign it on my behalf.
Fuck you PirateSoftware.
I know recently there was 2 eu board type members to speak up for STG (my wording on them might be incorrect) hopefully that continues..
Little worried about this signature thing though. I haven’t kept up with much. but barely noticed the part where it says “and meet the minimum threshold in atleast 7 countries” hopefully they got that with those signatures I would imagine so?but you never know.
Thank you piratesoftware xD
Let’s goooooo!
