It was released on July 19th, 2016.

Time goes by way too fast. I remember when I was building my first PC in 2017 and decided against it and went with a RX 480 Red Devil.

The 1060 was a game changer for mid-range builds. Time flies for sure!

The 1060 was my first graphics card and it was only the 3g model, it showed me the world of PC gaming and I haven’t looked back since.

    Wow.

I’ve been a PC gamer since the 90s but for the most part felt like I was always behind the curve when it came to rig performance.

Until in 2017 I got a rig built around the 1060 and felt for the first time that I had an actual decent gaming rig that didn’t break the bank.

I said goodbye to my 1060 in 2022 when I replaced my rig with one built around a 3060 and I also love that card.

Now I’m running a 4070 TiS just because I can, but the 1060 always felt like actual start of my gaming peak.

Nvidia is never making another “mistake” like 10 series again…

Only 1 more year before 10th anniversary of this legendary mid-range GPU

  6. I’ve still got my 1060 3gb that I bought in 2017. Thing still runs like a dream and is now the card inside my homes network/ security/ NAS system.

I’ve had 3 top of the range cards completely die on me and a handful of others with moderate issues in the same period of too.

They don’t make em’ like they used to at times seems cliche but the 1060 is honestly an excellent example of this.

    That was my last card – 3GB version. I didn’t upgrade till 2y ago – to a 3070

I got married, and ordered a 1070 on my honeymoon. It was there waiting for me when I got back. It lasted me until 2021.

  9. Going from a 9500 GT to a 1060 felt like I was invincible and anything was a possibility.

  10. I’ve had my 1060 6gb since Jan 2017 and its got me through a ton of gaming.

  11. Legendary video cards don’t get themselves “oopsied” by a £150 competitor.

The 9 SM version was up against the RX 470, the 10 SM version (and Nvidia wasn’t out there telling you the 3 GB model wasn’t even the same GPU) was up against the RX 480. On release, it was more or less a wash. Unless you accidentally got the 9 SM, 3 GB model. Poor you.

A year or so later, the 1060 was still in production and AMD had refreshed to the 570 and 580, both of them with 8 GB, both of them pretty solidly ahead. As drivers matured, AMD strode further ahead.

Used the legacy edition from 2017 to 2023, still have it plan on using it for a legacy hardware build not that my computer already isnt. Went to microcenter to get a replacment motherboard and they looked at me like was a dinosaur still rocking a b250 and an i7 7700k with a 3080. Is there a bottleneck? Yes but it still runs what i need it to.

I’m still rocking the 1060 6 gb… however I don’t really game anymore so that bad boys staying until it gives up

  14. TurnUpThe4D3D3D3

I’m still using the 1070 to this day. It’s 9 years old but it still runs most of my games perfectly fine. The 1000 series was really something special, that gen was a huge leap in GPU technology.

Imagine releasing 60 series faster than previous 80 series. Best we can have in 2025 is 60ti weaker than 70.

  16. ByteSpawn

I still have the 3Gb version can’t wait to upgrade to 9070XT

  17. Adventurous_Mud_3595

I still have my gtx 1080ti and it still runs strong!

Older than most Roblox Players and Redditors out there

    W post btw

I have this in the 1080 Ti version. 11 GB on board memory. Only thing is it’s not an RTX so no hardware ray tracing. It does support software ray tracing but, as we know, that’s a joke.

Still a great graphics card and still doing yeoman’s duty in my Win 11, Ryzen Media Center computer.

  20. PVTSprinkles

i still have an asus strix model trucking along in my brothers pc

  21. khal_lungsod

I saw used pc for around 55 bucks not use if its working. should I get it? it has gtx 1060 and an intel gen 4-6.

  22. bert_the_one

The GTX1060 6gb and the RX580 8gb were incredibly good purchases and amazing value back in 2017, the jump from the previous generation and the fact the cost was just spot mid range pricing made these graphics cards absolutely epic.

And the best bit about them is they are still usable at 1080 today How good is that?

  23. BusSea5401

You’re telling me my 1060 3gb is 9 years old? Crazy
