and if it had legs could live forever as a scratcher.

Now I know what I would do if my cpu dies

Let’s see you pull the keys out of your pocket.

You should have ground down the pins on a beltsander

I have a few old cpus I am thinking of imerising in epoxy resin to turn them into coasters .. or cpu cup rests

your keys will gradually slow down as the years go by. i hope you have planned a solid upgrade path for this device.

would have opted to see if said 9800x3d dead from Asrock motherboard but were not in that timeframe yet since most dead ones get RMA’d as they should be so customers get back a working cpu.

  7. Very bad as a keychain unless you shave off the pins.

  8. BarelyContainedChaos

not only take off the pins but also round the corners.

there’s this bullshit paranormal show on a Russian TV where self-proclaimed psychics compete in a series of tasks involving their psychic abilities. and they actually had this guy wearing a CPU necklace claiming he was a “tech magician” and he used his tech psychic abilities to talk to dead people, solve mystery crimes, and all kinds of paranormal crap. I laughed my ass off.

I tried desoldering the pins on an old P4 Northwood from ebay. (relax it was a 2GHz, low-end one.) Holy shit, what a tremendous pain in the ass to do by hand with an soldering iron. If I had a heat gun it would have been a breeze, but I don’t have other good reasons to buy one.

So instead, now, I buy LGA chips whenever I want to make a new round of nerdy gifts, lol.

(cobalt drill bits, and a dremel tool to round/smooth the PCB and drill site if anyone wants to know)

Off-topic, but how does a CPU just die? Like, aside from the 14th-gen Intel fiasco, how does a CPU just decide “Yeah, I’m gonna kill myself today?” Never had that happen to me, my old Pentium E6xxx(I forgor the exact model), Core 2 Quad, even my Ryzen 5 2600 are all still kicking.
