Not all games need to be preserved, this is one that is allowed to die completely.
RetroSwamp
Anthem shutting was because it was awful wasn’t it?
baddayforsanity
I agree with the sentiment overall but this one’s at least a mercy killing
Bansheesdie
It is hilarious to me that Anthem is being used as the battlecry or showcase game for why this initiative is important. SkillUp made the same comparison.
Anthem!?
mittelwerk
Shutdown? I didn’t even know it was still alive. Or that game got better after its epically disastrous launch?
SpawnSnow
Going to have to give it another go between now and then. Anthem was great for those 20 minute game sessions where you just wanted to feel badass while flying around between work and afternoon errands.
_iCoNik_
So a company that’s losing money on a product should just suck it up and keep losing money?
I don’t agree with making people uninstall the game, but keeping servers online for a game that absolutely bombed doesn’t make sense.
Edit: I admit to not fully understanding what all the petition asked for. Thank yall for explaining it. My apologies.
Stolehtreb
If you’re here saying this game should be allowed to die, you’re part of the problem. Can’t pick and choose what your rights apply to.
K41Nof2358
to everyone saying, why does this game need to be preserved??
## That’s the point, all games should be accessible after being purchased
doesn’t matter what you individually may think about the game, if someone purchased it because they wanted to play it, they have a right to retain access to it
# If you don’t like something that doesn’t mean someone else shouldn’t have the ability to like it for themselves
This is on par with someone coming to repossess your car because the manufacturer who made it went out of business. Doesn’t matter that you paid for it or what you currently use it for, the manufacturer decides they don’t want that car on the street anymore so they’re going to come and take it from you
Gindotto
Weird hill to die on but ok.
charlesbronZon
Yeah, games should be preserved in some way.
But Anthem is probably among the worst arguments to bring forth in that regard, so… oh no, anyways. 🤷♂️
Liu-K
We all have preferences and this to me is kaka but the principle is the point not which games publishers choose the principle applies to.
Shinnyo
Y’all people in the comments saying it should shut down because it was awful are missing a critical point.
Anthem was built as a “Try if it scores, fix it later” game. SKG would discourage these practices and force companies like EA to deliver a solid product and to try fixing it rather than abandon it.
BIGPERSONlittlealien
Considering I beat Anthem all by myself cause no one was playing it. What’s the reason this game needs to be always online again?
Deadeyescum
TIL That Anthem hadn’t already been shut down…
TheRexRider
This game is the reason Andromeda’s development was a nightmare. This one’s place is behind the shed.
Drittenmann
uh tbh i completely forgot this game was a thing
Phantasmio
I would of liked to try this game regardless of the public sentiment. A shame really. I know anthem is not the best flag bearer for this movement, but it is very relevant despite as it is another full title that will be completely gone forever. No way to play it, no way to see if you like it or hate it, no way to preserve what work many folks labored over despite its reception.
Just like emulation preserving games that were flops, it’s still art and a small chapter of gaming history that’s being wiped away completely.
Also since I’ve seen it commented here several times, SKG isn’t asking for companies to keep servers online in these online only games. They want tools to run dedicated servers or an offline mode so you can play the stuff you purchased still.
TheDanius
Nah. This one can die.
xLuky
Stop killing games only matters to games that people care about, or even know still exist.
Kdigglerz
Rumbleverse is a better argument imo.
teddytwelvetoes
hilarious example to use, tbh
Sevenscissorz
It was a pretty fun game, gave me a very iron man vibe with the medium suit youre able to play as
Arpadiam
It would be nice if they make the game F2P now till jan 2026, they had nothing to lose at this point
uchuskies08
No one wanted to play this game for 6 years but they shut down the servers and now it’s a tragedy
Piggstein
Imagine future generations being unable to play
(checks notes)
Anthem?
(Aside: is that right you guys? Don’t we have any better examples?)
Ahem
Anthem.

loved this game, what shame

That’s not **the best** example but yea, it would be nice if that game stayed available.

Anthem is one of my favorite games of all time, but LOL Jesus Christ you picked the WORST example that anyone could have ever thought of.
You literally picked a game that most people didnt even realize WAS still playable in the first place.
Training-Republic301
I want ny 1.99$ back. JK.

Mass Effect Andromeda and any following content died because of Anthem. It’s death couldn’t come sooner so dumbass execs at EA realize faster that Mass Effect is better.
3InchesPunisher
The crew is the perfect example on why stop killing games is necessary, people loved it but Ubishit shut it down and theres no more trace of it, instead of them letting people mod it for private plays they removed it anywhere.
Reddit-Simulator
In 10 years, there might be people saying, “Remember Anthem?” And maybe some people will want to try it to see if it was as bad as people said it was. People in the future should have the right to pop the game in and play it for themselves, instead of having to look at YouTube videos for Anthem and other games that can never be launched again. Whether a game sucks or not, it should be preserved for offline, single-player use at the very least.
MarcSpector95
Yesterday i tried to play it on my xbox one s just to find out that is a online only game. Call me clueless but i thought you could play it single player.
As said by others, these live service games need to have a way to be played offline if and when the developer pulls the plug on it
Masterdmr
I’ve always thought the more practical solution, that developers don’t have an excuse for, is that on releasing a game developers must publish the following:
– What features require “support” from the developer
– The minimum date these features will be supported to
– What state the game will be in when this support ends
– The report will be revised each time the deadline is reached and/if support is extended so those who buy the game in the future know where the game stands.
We as gamers can then make informed choices. We can look how long the games servers will be up, and decide if that’s good value for money.
And if a game won’t be left in a playable state when support ends, then we can choose not to buy it.
DGC_David
Tbh I said this game should have stopped before it ever released.
Anthem was my turning point in games… I remember the E3 it was announced at and saying, “oh we aren’t making games anymore, we just gave up on that, cool.” I remember all the Cinematics and thinking, but I want to see the gameplay, what are me and my friends going to do? I don’t really trust EA at all either.
Basically Anthem was the game that made me go AAA Game Development is gone, it is done, it doesn’t work.
Taki_Minase
Let Anthem remind fools to hold their tongues.
The1AndOnlySB
Game was an absolute disaster. It should have been shut down long before this upcoming shutdown date.
getlostjackass
they chose to give up instead of giving us anthem next update that they were working on its a pity because this game had some of the best ways to fly your suits
drchigero
It had it’s problems, legit problems. But I really liked Anthem. The story had a crazy twist that I never saw coming, the minute to minute gameplay was excellent (the whole setup and detonate synergy was cool), it looked great, etc. I still think of the game from time to time and wish they had went through with the whole 2.0 thing.
Ants-nest
I didn’t even know it was axed! Thats sad. So much work down the drain. Imagine working on something like that and not being able to see it being played by the public.
Like I get the corporate greed and all that, but the artists and devs working on something like that are regular people. Hopefully they can add the work to their portfolios to move onto new gigs. But in an already iffy industry, I do feel for them.
Majician
I learned a long time ago to let things cook for a bit after they get released before buying them. That way I know if I”m really getting what I paid for. Long time ago I bought Sony’s H1Z1 and enjoyed the hell out of fighting against the elements to eck out an exsistance everything trying to kill me. Pretty soon Sony sold the studio and Daybreak decided that “instant thrill” and loot bags were more important than the MMO experience….I wasn’t too thrilled about it but I took my lumps and uninstalled it and bought RUST and have been forever happier with that experience over H1Z1.
