The mission briefing describes the squatters as previous tenants not wanting the real estate typhoons to drive them out. And the Strikers mission is literally described as workers wanting better working conditions.

The mission description literally says they are citizens and the guard(their police) cant use force, and for you to teach them the rules of society. Conditions for missions success… killing them all…

You literally start as the bad guy of the series.

From Software wasn't playing around back then.

It really drills in the fact that you’re an amoral mercenary right at the beginning.

I wish (even more) games made you play from the bad guys pov more. Whenever it’s from a humanizing or dehumanizing point t

“Teach them the rules of society”, bro that’s the most dystopian way to say “murder some union guys” I’ve ever heard

Yeah I noticed this when I replayed as an adult as well. Adds new meaning to the whole hired gun who just do jobs for money and doesn’t think about anything else

Yeah, FromSoft made it clear from the start—you’re not a hero, just a tool for corrupt powers. Cold, gritty, and way ahead of its time

You’re a mercenary working for mega corporations.  You were never a good guy in the Armored score series.

  7. LolYouFuckingLoser

Yup. There was a lot of that kind of stuff in games back in the day. Hell, the main group you join at the beginning of FFVII are environmental activists.

Several missions in armored core are basically “do this unethical thing for money because corporations run the universe.”

Fromsoft is really good at reminding you that you are not a good guy by giving you these first then the mission a bit later where you whole job is to attack civilians in a city and your pay is based on how much destruction you create. They also have a mission in 3 where they give you a bonus for destroying passenger trains since the more causalities the more the it makes the rival company look incompetent.

This gritty atmosphere is what’s missing in AC6 for me. Yeah you’re still killing people… But not civilian. Early AC is literally showing a dystopian future.

Iirc, in one of the first few games (probably this one), there’s an optional mission where you can attack a hospital or something.

It was so messed up that I passed on doing that mission.

Hahah, i remember this, i was like 14 and remember thinking “uh, this is weird” but then kinda going along with it.

Old enough to realize “something is up” but not old enough to really figure it out what indeed was up.

  13. So you’re just in a mech mowing down defenseless no-mech human beings? Wow

Eliminate the homeless or eliminate the downtrodden

  15. Eliminate Strikers is the better of the two because there’s a free rocket launcher behind the starting position that’s worth a ton.

Fascist fantasy makes for good action games and movies.
