Petition to call them PC2 games then. Released exclusively for RTX capable hardware. Up till GTX it was PC1 /s
CyberRaver39
RTX isnt next gen, its been around for bloody ages, and its cost is still not worth the visual upgrades yet
if its added as a extra bling option then great, but if its forced at a huge performance loss, then its stupid
Also if you have to buy a new card, it can sometimes cost more than a console by the time games aren’t being made for the prior console.

Give me a game that is just Ray Trace rendering.
SnappyRice
well, i’m sure last gen console users are also not happy

You can buy an RTX 2070 for $170 or a RTX 2080 for around $220 on ebay and I’ll bet it’ll last a while as well.

Never seen a game that requires a Nvidia GPU before… Sounds pretty anti competitive

We warned you, we said RT would make devs lazy and they would stop baking in lighting…. Now here we are.

Console players get excited when a game is next gen only?

Can’t play FF7 rebirth on my 1080ti rig and at this rate if im gonna upgrade i’d need a whole new PC and not just a GPU swap.
Im too broke for that.

Hardware raytracing capable cards have been around for 8 years, it’s not that absurd of a requirement nowadays.
On the other hand though the prices of said cards aren’t great currently unless you settle for low end cards

The GTX 1080 is 9 years old this year, in 2016 when it came out 9 years before before that was the 8800 GTX…

List of games that actually matter and are actually made visually better with RT:
Cyberpunk

You guys don’t have last gen?
Are you peasants or something?

When are we going to stop calling the current gen next gen consoles they’ve been current gen for 5 years at this point
Trollensky17
I remember loads of console players being upset their console couldn’t play a new game personally, though they were probably young

The people that loudly whine about developers finally mandating ray traced renders and mesh shaders (which are unrelated but deserve a mention anyway given how people were absolutely losing their fucking minds AW2 didn’t ship with a vertex shader fallback) are the same people that vociferously bitched back in the day that games were starting to require 3d accelerators and that the final image didn’t look as sharp or perform quite as nicely as one that was software rendered, that hardware T&L was required, and/or programmable shaders had become mandatory.
Technology progresses. Just be glad it progresses more iteratively now than it used to.

The RTX line dropped in 2019, and the cheapest 2060s are like, 200$. Not having an RTX at this point is a choice, not an obstacle.

OP is an industry shill. I’ll change my GTX, yes fucking GTX, 1080ti when there will be a need.

Yeah, this! I got into PC gaming so I *wouldn’t* have to upgrade my hardware every couple of years!

I do not understand why people are that upset about it. The same exact thing happens when a new directX version comes out. The older hardware doesn’t support the newer games in those cases as well. Not to mention RTX cards have existed for ~7 years now.
DotJata
Yes, I too killed my son in a fit of rage when I saw that a game had mandatory raytracing.
VeryNoisyLizard
I wouldnt be so reluctant to buy a new card if the prices werent out of whack
