  1. Out of the Loop here, what’s the issue?
    Has the Game been abandoned?

i hope this is not just for marketing, what a mess.

It’s been an utter shitshow over on the Subnautica sub. He said this, they said that, leaks, twists, turns, wild conspiracies, jumping on the bandwagon only to jump off again hours later.

The game isn’t abandoned but Krafton seem to have faith in their receipts that show the founders had slacked off and gone awol while the devs just continued to chug along with the games development. Where as the founders deny it and hence the legal fisticuffs.

Best just to ignore the entire thing and wait till a court decides and as for the game its best just to wait till reviews drop whenever it gets released.

What a mess. They could have just left it as a delay. Happens all the time. This is just adding expense and bad blood. Games are created, not litigated. And why the hell would you snitch on your own project cutting features before release.

Reading the article and not picking sides on who’s right or wrong. To me it sounds like greed all around from the 3 devs that left. to Krafton

The 3 devs that left apparently wanted 90% of the 250m to themselves not spread around the 100 employees. as much as they made it sound? And even started focusing on a film apparently? “Krafton’s new statement accused the former leadership team of abandoning their responsibilities in order to work on other projects, including a film, which it said led to delays for the game, and claimed that 90% of the $250 million payout was allocated to the three execs.”

And krafton seems like they don’t want to pay that money and want to keep it. Possibly there intentions from the start. It sounds shady all around to me from both sides. I haven’t kept up with this news of this game. But what *if* it truly isn’t ready and they were rushing *early access* for an excuse for tons of bugs.

  7. Lot of stuff we don’t know

I have no idea who is in the right side….or if both sides are in the wrong here

I’d rather wait but I hope this game continues and delivers because Subnautica 1 is good

As an advanced notice, I will be making slight assumptions in this comment:

What we know: Krafton was set to pay $250 million in bonuses to the dev team, consisting of 2 different studios’ team members, if the game came out this year. The devs announced the game was good to come out in Early Access, likely full launch before the end of the year. Krafton then delayed the release date until 2026. It is theorized/widely accepted that this was to avoid the bonus payout. Krafton is therefore being sued by the devs. Then Krafton claims they abandoned the project.

My assumptions: The dev team of Subnautica seems legit. They don’t strike me as liars or sheisters. Krafton delaying the game is probably the last thing they wanted, as they seem passionate about getting the games in people’s hands. So, with the game in its current state, ready to play, but for sure not coming out until next year, they all said “welp, might as well work on other stuff”. So now Krafton is making the ludicrous claim that they abandoned the project, possibly as a pretense for why they delayed the game in the first place.

The article does a great job of not making one side look more “right” than the others. Krafton’s timing is suspicious, but the confirming of the leaks doesn’t paint the former devs’ side in a very good light either. This is going to be a very messy lawsuit, I predict.

Publisher is trying to get out of paying $250 million. That’s the underlying story. They can avoid paying $250m if they delay the launch until 2026.
