Kinda glad they’re killing PUBG esports in the west so I can stop supporting this company in any way.

  2. Sandraptor

Man I hope they come out on top. Charlie’s so earnest— if it’s actually like he says then that’s terrible

  3. I’m not hopeful but god damn I’m happy he’s fighting.

  4. Saitsuofleaves

Yep saw this coming after the post from Krafton. Buckle up, this will be getting very ugly.

Ima be real I think Ill just stop following the development of this game till it comes out or not…

Krafton said the 3 fired executives were getting 90% of the $250m payout. So is this guy saying those 3 would share that $225m with the devs? Not sure I understand how that trickle down would work.

  7. discovery’s gonna be juicy

wonder if it’ll be another ironmace situ or not. not taking sides until i see the exhibits

  8. rabidsalvation

Well, hopefully the truth comes out. But somehow I think there will be an undisclosed settlement at the end of this

  9. TheOnlyDinh

You know, the more I hear about this Krafton guy the more I don’t really care for him

  10. Standardly

I know nothing about this, but Subnautica is such a good fucking game..2 getting canceled would be a travesty. Devs seem cool, hope they come out on top

I don’t have a dog in this fight but, “Painful, protracted, and possibly public” is a hell of an alliteration.

This is what happens when you sell your souls to a big company like Krafton. They would’ve made more money probably just keeping the game for themselves

  13. dstowizzle

If they were in it for the love of the game, why did they sell?

Honestly, i don’t see the point in development companies selling themselves to large publishers anymore. Sure, it might give great revenue boosts in the short term, but we see again and again that the publishers just have no respect for the development teams that produce the games that their entire income is reliant on. It’s as if a company cuts off the electricity to their factory and expect everything to continue like normal.

I’m happy to see that Unknown Worlds is standing up for themselves. Having Krafton shaft them and go against the agreements of their contract is super scummy. Hopefully UW comes out on top and we get to see Subnautica 2.

  15. So basically boils down to

‘exec devs think game is ready for early access release and have thus fulfilled contractual obligations’
    vs
‘owner not satisfied with the development and think the game is undercooked thus fired leadership for negligence, denying bonuses’

So basically comes down to how functional and content rich the current ‘ready for EA’ version is.

This seems like it’s probably a mess on the heads of all party’s. I hope the full truth becomes clear eventually.

It’s nothing more than “he said, she said” right now. I’ll wait to see what happens in court.

  18. Noel_Ortiz

Krafton made some heavy allegations earlier against them and, to my knowledge, companies usually don’t do that unless they can back it up in court. I’m sure we’ll see some crazy stuff either way soon enough

  19. AHomicidalTelevision

If 90% of that bonus was going to the execs, it will be in a contract somewhere. So somebody has gotta provide receipts.

  20. SandboxSurvivalist

I’d like to understand why they sold their company and IP to Krafton in the first place, if it wasn’t about the money.

  21. restless_vagabond

“We know in our souls that the game is ready for early access” seems weird to me. Would there not be content benchmarks or an internal roadmap to hit before EA release.

I imagine a document like “the first 4 biomes would need to be complete, along with water physics and 40% of the build-able assets.”

Of course it’s he said/she said with no way to know, but surely there was some sort of plan beyond “when your soul feels ready.”

That doesn’t mean Krafton aren’t the scumbags here (and truthfully it could be a bit of both), but it isn’t difficult to imagine an Executive who has already gotten paid when they sold the company losing interest or wanting to do other bucket list shit (confirmed working on a movie). It happens in sports all the time when a player secures the bag and then fucks off with training and preparation.

Without a clear planning document, this all gets even murkier.

  22. MyDogIsDaBest

I’m not massively in-tune with Subnautica and Unknown Worlds, but after the Krafton message that went out, I knew the devs would respond and lo, they have.

I think I’m way too biased, but I’m way more on-board with the devs than the publisher. The money people always seem the most out of touch and the message they sent out reeks of PR people.

Not a fun situation at all, here’s hoping it all gets cleaned up and the game doesn’t suffer because of this.

  23. I don’t understand, not that I follow. Wasn’t this an indie game? How did they lose control?

  24. If you not there for riches and would not willingly abandon it then why did you sell your studio…..

It’s not like krafton came out of nowhere and just took over, they had to agree to it.

    I smell lies

  25. Kitakitakita

maybe this’ll set a precedent on… Something, idk.
