My opinion is that it is mostly enough and will be enough at 1080 medium, and in some cases, lowering some settings. But Idk about 5050.
Other_Nothing2436
I am personally happy for manufacturers to keep producing 8GB cards **at the right price point**. Lots of people do just want a cheap GPU to play their old games / Minecraft etc and don’t need to spend money on a mid tier card. But the 8GB cards should not have the RRP they do today.
AverageChloroform
Why tf is 4060 and even 2060 beating the 5060???
J-Clash
I agree that 8GB is too low for new GPUs BUT cherry-picking the one game from that video where it made that difference is not the gotcha you think it is.
squarey3ti
The problem is not the 8GB itself, the problem is that they are put on cards that don’t cost as much as low-end cards
Upset-Ad-6623
Suddenly I am growing more and more content with my 3060 12G. I had my doubts. But as time progresses it is showing to be one of the last strong xx60 cards with the minimal performance gain in 40 and 50 series.
None of the GPUs are fast enough to run this game at Very High Quality is the conclusion.
Alot of VRAM is pointless if GPU is weak anyway. We have seen this plenty of times. Radeon 6800 16GB aged like milk for example. Can’t do RT, won’t get FSR 4. Dated arch. VRAM won’t help when GPU feature-set is lacking.
If you think VRAM will make your card magically last for 10 years, you know nothing. GPU power, features (upscaling, frame gen) are just as important as well. A GPU needs balance.
Thats why 5070 12GB bitchslaps both 5060 Ti 16GB and 9060 XT 16GB. 40% more GPU power is more important than VRAM.
Eventually on a slow GPU, you won’t be able to max out the games anyway and the VRAM is not worth anything.
Emily_Corvo
Because at the moment except for a few titles the games are playable (50-60 FPS) on 8 GB with medium-high settings, especially when upscaling is used. I own a 3070Ti and I played most recent AAA titles on 3440×1440 with DLSS, either perf or quality, especially with DLSS 4 which now looks even better and I can lower the preset without any noticeable dif in quality.
It’s not enough if you play at max settings, that’s pretty clear.
Moidada77
No way a 5060 getting it’s ass handed to it by a 2060.
Remember when people gave amd shit for bad drivers…now it’s nvidias turn.

Yes, there are still so many copers saying 8gb of VRAM is enough. They have a name too.
They call themselves “NVidia Shareholders”
Nunulu
how much does VRAM matter if i only play on low settings?
bigeyez
Doesn’t this graph prove the opposite point? That if you simply turn settings down, the game is totally playable on 8GB cards. You’ll even get 60+ FPS at 1080p which is what most gamers are on still.
People on entry level cards cant expect to run games on max or near max settings.
FuryxHD
honestly surprised horizon zero dawn remastered uses that much vram even at 1080p?
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIftP0Ut2lU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIftP0Ut2lU) – Full video for anyone else. Its fine in medium, but then falls apart on very high quality.
It was the only game in their benchmark under very high quality that showcased this issue.
Games like CP2077/KCD2, showed none of those, and honestly they are far superior in visual quality/features than HZD:Remastered.
Clearly something is messing up with the vram in that game, that may get fixed with a patch.
Again not defending nvidia here, but it was the only game in their benchmark suit that failed and only in this very high quality preset did it show the issue.
This is a very click baity / hand picked screen to shown something that might not be an issue as the target audience is 1080p.
Hofnaerrchen
The 2060 being almost as fast as the 4060 actually points to a different problem other than just VRAM. Unfortunately it’s just a single slide from – looks like to be taken from HW Unboxed – a video. So quite some context is missing, because I’m quite sure Steve had to say something about this outlier.
Consider providing a link to the source next time.

My 3070 8gb is still playing everything I want it to.
illicITparameters
You cherry picked one game where none of the 8gb cards can even hit 60fps…. You buy an 8gb card and trying to cope??
qq669
Why would you not post the average and spin it like 8gb is crap… its fine, price is another question.. but 8gb is totally ok as a low tier gpu. https://i.postimg.cc/Y9nLF6vr/av.png
Mindless_Fortune1483
Well according to the pic 6gb of vram is better than 8. So maybe it has not so much with vram at all and there should be another reasons why 5060 performs worse than not only 3060 but 2060 as well? Or the tests are just garbage.
obsidian-24
VRAM alone is not the reason why some graphic cards perform better than others…
SexyPapi420
I’m seeing my 2060 still doing a great job. Enough to make a grown man cry
LuNoZzy
I’m not defending Nvidia or anything, but the fact that you cherry-picked this one image just because it supports your argument is shady as fuck.
Showing benchmarks from the other games wouldn’t work in your favor, would it?
dam0_0
There are too many corpo shills on reddit, man.
And some legit want other people to suffer because that’s the only way they can enjoy the upper tier product they have paid for.
Jack55555
You are the coper here. Not everyone is rich or wants a higer end machine. Why the F would a cuasual gamer who only plays esports games or other games on low/medium buy a very expensive gpu? How can you not get this? Its not rocket surgery.
No_Room4359
holldup what the 2060 beats the 5060?
Snowbunny236
OP clearly doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Also, cherry picking. Good to see the top comments have some sense in them.
koekienator89
Still sad I bought a 3080 instead of a 3080ti during Covid. Even on release I couldn’t play older games with HD texture packs most of the time. 10gb vram is just not enough.

Game being prolly optimized doesn’t prove your point. If all games are like this, they introduce need for more and more VRAM.
Devs can’t magically make 4K work on 4GB card, but frame rate shouldn’t drop 50% either when you go one resolution up
Christian_Potato
That is the only example where this happened, and it probably relates to drivers.
This wasn’t a video about 8 gb of vram, but the lack of performance uplift in the 60 lineup. From the 20 to 40 series there is such small margin of improvement it’s almost laughable. 5060 generally has damn good performance increase over it’s predecessors and if it had more vram, it would have been a top seller easily.
MTPWAZ
Picking one game that seems to have obvious problems out of a suite of benchmarks is probably not the best way to confirm your bias.
kiptheboss
Since it’s proven in other comments that this post is cherry-picking and misleading, will OP take it down?
Or will the people just run with this false narrative because it supports their bias.

8GB is fine if you want to run at 49 FPS…

Nice cherrypicking, flawed testing too, 2060 6GB beats 5060 8GB in 1440p? Lmao.
