Even though he passed before its release, Iwata played a key role in the development of the Nintendo Switch. I wish he got to see how successful it was, but his influence is still felt over a decade later.

This is the guy who while CEO of Nintendo, while the Wii-U was struggling, cut his salary by 50% instead of decreasing employee pay or having layoffs.

10 years already? Damn…

I’m not a nintendo fan at all but I still respect this guy and his way of thinking. When I look at his leadership and how he ran things it was clear he came from a game dev background and was thinking of how to enhance gaming. Meanwhile the current nintendo leadership are financial ghouls who are trained just to suck the most money out of everyone as humanly possible and it shows with many of their decisions.
That’s not to say everything was perfect under iwata, no corporation is great for us, but there are layers to how they treat us and under his watch they were a much better company.

Iwatas death was the first time I was ever really sad about a persons death that isn’t directly related to me
He was such an amazing person, it’s also really rare to see a CEO of such a big gaming company who actually deeply cares about video games

I will always cry at his other quote
“On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer.”
You are sorely missed Iwata!
