Do the devs retain the rights to Natural Selection?

  2. fromwhichofthisoak

Wasn’t gonna anyway, but im not even harder now.

  3. Nevek_Green

Not how that works. Bonuses are governed by contracts. If Krafton attempted this, they would likely be sued, lose, and then face additional losses due to their actions being taken in extreme bad faith. There are other likely reasons for the delay and termination of the studio heads.

  4. if they release a good game i’m playing it , if they don’t i’m not as simple as that i don’t care what happens in the background.

  5. Kurohimiko

Hadn’t planned to anyone. Not after they went on a ‘Games cause Violence’ bender with the first game.

  6. ImpulsiveApe07

All of that is speculation and hearsay, Op.

Post proof of confirmation, or take this thread down. No need to spread bs just because you want it to be true.

  8. Hot take, I don’t give a fuck and if I ever want the game I’ll buy it

One information point : They were not going to get 250 million. They have 100 staff, and that game wouldn’t have sold enough to hit whatever criteria was contracted to give them 2.5 mill each on average.

Got it 3 free in epic games Shop a while back :>

  11. Spartansoldier-175

Crazy. I was looking forward to this game. Not anymore after they replaced 3 peoples jobs with one guy that failed in his dead space rip off.

  12. What a coincidence! I wasn’t going to but now I can throw this in as a reason.

People wondering about a source [https://www.pcgamer.com/games/survival-crafting/subnautica-2-reportedly-delayed-into-2026-just-months-before-krafton-was-due-to-pay-a-usd250-million-bonus-to-developer-unknown-worlds/](https://www.pcgamer.com/games/survival-crafting/subnautica-2-reportedly-delayed-into-2026-just-months-before-krafton-was-due-to-pay-a-usd250-million-bonus-to-developer-unknown-worlds/)

“Just a week after gutting the leadership of [Subnautica 2](https://www.pcgamer.com/subnautica-2/) studio Unknown Worlds, a [Bloomberg](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-07-09/krafton-delays-subnautica-2-game-ahead-of-250-million-payout) report says Krafton is going to delay the game’s early access release into 2026. The decision comes mere months before the PUBG publisher was slated to pay Unknown Worlds a $250 million bonus that developers say hinged on Subnautica 2’s release this year.”

I don’t give a flying fuck about internal workings of game developers. If I like a game, I’m buying it.

  15. This is completely contrary to the last post. It claimed that the devs where fired because they didn’t want to ship an unfinished game.

  16. Yesterday it was Ubisofts EULA, today it’s this. Any bets on what it’s gonna be tomorrow?

Every single day people find something to be mad about, regardless wether its true or not

  17. Boycotts usually don’t work, especially if organized from Reddit.

Honestly the sequel looks like Subnautica Together. I think the devs lost sight of what made Subnautica 1 great – the tension, horror, isolation, and friction in the right places.

  18. fantome11

Nah, I’ll still buy it, cheers. If game’s good, that’s about all I care.

You wrote the post on your pc, macbook or a phone ran by sweatshops in china perhaps?

  19. People will buy it regardless of what you say. Remember what happened with the switch 2? Yeah…so much for “don’t support nintendo” posts.

  20. Jebusfreek666

I know this might be a hot take, but maybe the game was also delayed because it wasn’t done or was a buggy mess?

  21. ibArazakii

Does anybody on this entire website care about fact checking anything anymore?

  22. What if the fired devs wanted to vomit the game out this year just to claim the bonus payment? Everyone would then be upset, too when they receive another unfinished game.

We don’t know what the truth is and we should not act on rumors or one-sided opinions.

  23. OkNectarine9239

Does anyone remember what happened when you people wanted to boycott the Harry Potter game to prove a point, and by doing so, the game made even MORE money?

Yeah. This is the opposite of that.

The devs got fucked out of their money, they should take Krafton to court for that. It’s an easy win.

What YOU people are suggesting is to tank their game so they get NOTHING. They signed on with Krafton because they were struggling financially and you want to make it WORSE.

What the fuck is wrong with you people? I don’t get it.

  24. SufficientDaikon3503

Next time an article link would be great

  25. re_BlueBird

Nobody would pay them 250 million.

    I don’t believe it.

That’s the entire profit from the sales of 5-6 million copies(by 60 usd) of the game, including platform fees and taxes.

The original Subnautica sold 5+ million and Below Zero another 5 million.

Therefore, most likely the condition for receiving this 250 million would really be huge, something in the region of 10 million copies sold in the first 2 years, or some other crap that is impossible to implement.

What’s the point of Krafton giving developers a bonus greater than the theoretical profit from the release of the game?

And well, Below Zero was such crap that I wasn’t going to buy Subnautica 2.

  26. ResponsibilityTrue46

I dont understand part about bonuses. $250 MILLIONS? Its probably 10x more than budget fot the entire game. Some random googling says that first game made ~$260 millions. I agree that corpos are pure evil, but dont spread such unrealistic takes
