I don't use my PC daily and found out that one of my cats (see second image for reference) peed on it a few days ago. It looks like not much pee got inside, and it's all dry now, but I'm a bit worried to turn it on. The GPU was protected by the heat sink, but the mainboard has a few dried drops on it. What do you think I should do?

  • Turn on the PC and hope for the best
  • Clean the drops off the mainboard with a damp towel
  • ??

Clean it with IPA. Do not use water. Put it above or next to a radiator if you have one till you know there is no way there is any moisture still in there.

That’s a pretty unusual behavior for a cat. He had some beef with the PC.

Wash it well, I suggest alcohol and dry it well. To have more chances you can take it to some repair workshop, there they can wash it with ultrasonic bath. Then turn on and pray for the bet. Even ultrasonic bath won’t guarantee success, so consider yourself if you wish to pay for that.

Don’t let that happen again đź’Ż

Pee on the cat. Assert dominance. Also disconnect pc from power source (remember you are the only power in your house). Wait an hour (capacitors may still have some charge). Dry out the pee with a damp cloth / tissue. let it dry. Maybe use a hair dryer (don’t melt anything though). Wait a day or two, just in case there is still some humidity. Pee on the cat again. Power the pc, turn it on. Take a shit on the cat.

Buy the cat a pc and let the cat enjoy it

Then proceed to pee on the cats pc

Isopropanol alcohol and cotton buds to clean the mobo

  8. Broken-Phox

Dude, rub a piece of very thin cloth or paper with isopropyl alcohol on the affected areas, then dry it gently using another piece of cloth of paper. After the fact, just dust it with any kind of duster you have (just make sure to disconnect it from any power source for some minutes before doing it, in order to avoid a short circuit while dusting).

After the alcohol dries, which takes a few seconds, and the interior is free of cat hair and dust, you should be good to go. Don’t leave it on the sun and don’t wash it with water.

Let it dry out and then get some of those blue paper shop towels or a small ( coffee filters works too) dab some 98% isopropyl alcohol and wipe it with that to sterilize it and no other liquids is like the cat pee is on it. And you won’t be smelling it as you turn it on through your fans.

Be gentle with the wiping making sure you don’t tear off any capacitors.

  10. Clean thoroughly with Isopropyl alcohol, then dry with cold air

Tell them, being behind bars is an option.

  24. ByteEater

I think your cat just wants to make a statement…. anyhow, some alcohol will do

  25. apachelives

Workshop. Disassembly and clean (also to make sure you don’t find it elsewhere).

By clean we would be spraying on alcohol (spray bottle), letting it sit for a minute, and then blasting it with compressed air (air compressor), repeat until it looks brand new, zero contact/abrasive etc.

  26. Kung_Fucius

You’ll have to buy a new one. According to the laws of the Animal Kingdom, that’s the cat’s PC now.

  27. Ok_Astronomer_1960

Telling you right now that cat will not stop doing this at all no matter what you do. As other’s have said isopropyl alcohol. And get rid of the cat.

  28. Trisyphos
