To be honest I love its style and how it take classic zombie mechanics and reskins it in a new way

Bo4 and today’s zombies would probably be better off had it been full focussed on Chaos and Aether ended in bo3

I’m very biased because I don’t like the greek/roman mythology stuff but I didn’t care at all for it. The characters in game are also kinda boring. When playing solo I’d always restart to play as Diego or Shaw.
It kinda got robbed sharing it’s spotlight with the equally half-assed aether storyline. Separating them into different games was the only way this was ever gonna work.
JAKL-Noctium
It was fun, but would’ve been a bigger success if they didn’t change all the perks and cleaned up the UI.

Mythology + zombies for me is absolutely peak, as those are basically my 2 biggest interests lmao
Able-Collar5705
Starting a new story while trying to finish aether at the same time wasn’t a smart move.
Them focusing on telling two unrelated stories ultimately ruined both aether and chaos. This contributed to the ending of aether feeling kinda underwhelming, and chaos being left on the cliffhanger when it was starting to get interesting.
It was also difficult to get people invested in new characters when they were invested in seeing the ending of characters they grew up with.
It’s really a shame. Dead of the Night and Ancient Evil are in the top ten best zombie maps of all time imo. I also think Shaw is very funny.
Cold_moose1
I loved it. Just maybe the game mechanics didn’t do well idk. It’s something abt there last two maps I just didn’t like yk. But it def wasn’t the story
Intelligent-Car-6219
I honestly wish that they had continued with chaos and told that story rather than retconning the end of out aether crew. The story was also very interesting but sadly it has been connected to the dark aether story and no longer will be its own thing 🙁
Melancholic_Starborn
Love the art direction, brought a warm elegance to a series that has normally followed a more cold laboratory tone.
Story had good building blocks but was never given the chance to flesh out.
The worst part of the chaos storyline is that it was part of BO4’s gameplay systems.
TerraSeeker
It’s the best.

Absolutely loved the level design, character were funny just not as good as the original crew but I can’t be bias to compare a crew to those who have been on a pedostal for over a devade and a half, I still like the Chaos crew more than the other crews we have had though. Absolutely love mythology especially Greek and they have some from others in IX also, I really enjoy the levels and the Easter Egg and side Easter egg steps. The new zombies are cool like catalyst, gladiator, tiger blight father, stoker ect. It’s a nice change up and fits each level making a lot of sense. If they kept going with them like they should has and never fired Blundell’s genius and had others from the BO3-4 zombie team they could have made an entire BO5 game that had like 6+ Chaos maps with how much lore and mythology their is especially Greek they could have made a banger of a game and really worked on the story to make it shine! Imagine, they would have probably finally had the City of Atlantis people theorized about in BO2. There is so much potential they just dropped it all sadly.
Dark Aether could have had a lot of potential, but whoever wrote the story didn’t have a fucking clue what they were doing and couldn’t write a novel to save their life. The maps sucked and the story was very poorly written and seems rushed and lazy. Don’t get me wrong how much intel they had was impressive but the direction they took it all was far from the right place. And they should have started with Samantha Maxis being the main character to play as from the start but instead we got her as a pos operator skin instead. Fire Base Z was the complete downfall of COD Zombies as a whole. No map after that was rememberable at all pretty much.
Ngl… I stopped following the lore and plot line of zombies after bo3… I have no idea what’s happening in bo6 I just play casually
Embarrassed_Ad_496
At the time nobody really liked it but I thought it would’ve been a good story had aether not been the focusing point of bo4 and it definitely would’ve been a better story to follow than what we’ve been getting
SmartDrama265
I thought the story was super interesting, with it being a trial instead of an outbreak or something and the addition of Greek mythology. I personally wasn’t a huge fan of the futuristic weapons being used in the 1920’s basically, I would have been okay with it being period accurate or close to accurate, just makes more sense to me. I think expanding on the story more to figure out who these guys were would be cool, but leaving it on a cliff hanger kind of sucked. I think it’s major downfall was being in probably one of the worst COD games at least in my opinion made it not enjoyable

Fuck i just explained how much I loved chaos in another thread… uhh I’ll TLDR it here.
The 4 maps being 4 different trials that are represented by the perk machines are fucking cool as shit. Said perk machines are the best designed machines in the franchise. Chaos has the best specialist weapons, the best special grenades, the best special zombies, and has the best minibosses (yes the blightfather is better than anything in bo6, bite me).
Prima materia being naturally occurring rather than placed by aliens like 115 was is a cool concept.
The chaos story is better than dark aether by miles despite only being in one game, while DA was in fucking 4.
The ending is the single best twist in zombies history and its maps/bosses are all peak. AE, IX, and DOTN in particular are better than any map we’ve gotten in the last… 10 or so years lmao
zomboy115
I mean we practically are still playing the Chaos storyline with the Sentinel Artifact and Alister Rhoades being in this storyline

This right here is the definition of Dark Aether and everything Fire Base Z and on. Title and lyrics say it all! https://youtu.be/SR6_J1IVvlg?si=PfCv2B99qY1LB6tK
