Romero games met with Microsoft a day before their funding was pulled after the layoff fiasco. They made no mention that anything was going to happen and the studio had to shut down due to the cancellation.

Everything about all of this sucks.

The best cope I’ve seen was people saying it was good that Microsoft pulled funding because Romero is unreliable and not a good dev etc. which is like so why the fuck did Microsoft sign on to publish their game in the first place?

Replace Phil Spencer, Matt Booty, and Sarah Bond with AI.

  2. Microsoft should be as hated as EA is, if not more so.

Undeniably the worst publisher in the industry at this point.

They could have literally met with a person in the communications team with no knowledge on what was happening.

I think it may be possible that whoever he met with, had no idea about the layoffs, too.

This is what happens when you take millions of $ from corporate but you don’t follow the timeline they give you lol.

Does it seem like they took the decision to completely close the studio very abruptly? Like the same day as microsoft cancelled the deal they fired everyone and closed the studio? Would it not have been possible to get funding from another published, to salvage the game the were working on in some way?

I just would have thought that normally people would take a few days to weigh up their options before deciding to fire everyone and close the studio.

Tends to be the way layoffs go. Don’t think most of us are given the luxury or advance notice

  8. Almost sounds like they wanted to make sure that shutting the studio down is the right move.

  9. I mentioned it in another thread, but I’m still hoping John has one more of those big moments where he’s able to recreate that magic from early id.

This is the last studio people should keep being up in this situation…

He’ll open another one like he did over and over the last decade.
