I use old phone as a webcam plus with Nvidia Broadcast app and OBS, it’s way better than most webcams.
I will use old phone for Spotify and music listening in the gym because the old one has a jack socket and I don’t have the wireless headset.

I´ve done that before with an old phone and it worked great for like 3 months. I even had it setup so that the screen came on when the pc was on and it went back off when I shut my PC down.
But after those 3 months of it beeing kept at basically maximum charge the battery turned into a spicy pillow so I had to throw the whole setup out for safety.
So if want it to last you have to figure out a way to make it run directly powered from the PC with the battery removed.

For anybody interested I was running it in airplane mode so that I dont get any notifications or updates or anything like that. The phone was connected as a secondary display over internal USB-C using Splashtop Wired XDisplay app. The UI is Aida64. It worked flawlessly untill it didnt because of the battery so thats the only thing which needs to be figured out.

I use them like this. Old phones are great for all kind of walldisplay or to use like a streamdeck.
Except I think that’s a Smasnug so… I’d expect that OLED to be burned pretty badly doing so.
As for charging (which is what most will concern about) I think you can set a limit so the battery doesn’t get armed into a fire hazard

I use SunShine+VirtualDisplayDriver. Similar to this, so I can use it as an extra monitor (supports any res, hz and even HDR) and with rainmeter you can customize it with monitoring skins or whatever you want.
Some people probably main this phone daily and you called it old 😂

Careful! Your phone’s battery will eventually expand and could potentially burst. Make sure to remove the battery. No all phones will work when the battery is removed, so some phones should not be used.
