One of the cutscenes in MGS4 is over an hour long.
When Kojima has a story to tell, he’s going to fully commit to it, gotta respect him for that.
En4cr
These average play through times are rookie numbers and sound more like speed runs.
BonnaroovianCode
MGS4 was my least favorite for this reason. Kojima, if you want to make a movie, just make a movie.
Outrageous-Wall6386
I hate DS2 is a bunch of cutscenes even on Private room?
like wtf he should of made that 3rd person walking around in that small area
J_Beckett
I could have sworn MGS4 had less gameplay than that. I hardly remember actually playing it.
Hammerheadshark55
6hrs of cutscene in death stranding 2??? Why not make a movie trilogy.
I would’ve been interested in the franchise if they make a movie instead
FanSince84
I have never minded it honestly and love all of those games to varying degrees, but the fact that it keeps increasing from one MGS to the next and then for 4 just leaps up dramatically even further as a % … and then almost as if in response, for 5, as his final Konami game, falls to (comparatively) negligible levels, is really unintentionally funny to me lol.
CaIvein
It’s peak. He actually wanted to do movies but couldn’t so he found his hobby in videogames. Love that guy.

I’d have guessed on average 1/3 of the time but I was surprised most don’t reach 1/4

Mg3 is on average only 16h wow

If they all could be paused or moved through quickly in a controlled way I wouldn’t mind, but how some of them you are forced to watch can be annoying as hell.
HeavyDT
I don’t think having a huge amount is a problem per say as long as it’s dispersed well throughout the game. MGS2 and MS4 had some crazy as long cut scenes in them especially near the end like put down the controller you are watching a movie now type length. Amazing stories and well worth watching but i can see how that turns some people off. I feel like once you go over 5 minutes for a cutscene in a game it’s getting kinda long and maybe that should be a interactive experience instead if possible.
Wanderer-Named-Ken
Having played DS2 myself, i found having snack for cutscenes was going well for me because they tend to be long for no reason, with that said, after i beat the story i had no motivation to ever play the game again and instantly deleted it, it’s a 6.5/10 game for sure, some orders felt intentionally stretchy just to pad game time and the music selection outside of important story cutscenes weren’t really good
Rosebunse
Death Stranding 2 is a musical and you can’t change my mind
RDGtheGreat
What about PT? How much of it is the Norman Reedus reveal?
Battlefire
One aspect I love about MGS5 over the other games. Cutscenes weren’t as long as the others.
ignitejr
I love MGS gameplay, but hated to watch some C-Tier movie content.
MindStranger
Cinematic custscenes is the core of MGS games and why I like them so much. This blurred effect with lower PS1 and PS2 resolutions makes it feel like a movie and a reward after beating another boss. Well, maybe except for MGS 4 when it stopped working for me for some reason. All I remember from that game is neverending smoking and coughing from Snake (and a few Raiden battles).
The_Powers
Is it true the ending of MGS4 has a feature length ending cutscene?
jay_alfred_prufrock
I remember my flatmate playing MGS4, cutscene at the beginning of the mission, cutscene after he crawled under a truck, cutscene after several steps in the street and so on. It was ridiculous.
I also remember him getting up to get some coffee one day and saying “fucking cutscene isn’t ending” I think that one was about the last cutscene of the game lol
HumblestRedditor
Now compare these numbers to other games of similar scale. How much of Resident Evil 4 is cutscenes, for example.
superpanchox
I don’t feel that I’ve watched that many cutscenes in Death Stranding (I’m in episode 8)
ERR_5h0wt1m3
I will never understand how someone can play a Kojima Game and complain about long cutscenes. Video Games are as much an Art Form as any other medium can be so if you dont want to appreciate the effort he put into his story telling either skip the scenes or not play the game.
SOME People here are saying that long cut scenes and conversations have nothing to do in video games and behaving like the dumbest kind of gate keepers i ever encountered. Games are so good because they can include many types of story telling in one type of medium. If we ever want OUR favorite kind of medium to be taken seriously we should just let people enjoy their kind of games and we have to have space for experimentation and not so typical games
CallMePickle
There are 21 hours of cutscenes in a single expansion of FFXIV (Dawntrail). And there is a single 45-minute cutscene earlier in the game as well.
Some games are movies.
kaner63
Totally overrated game developer IMO. I always hated the MGS games.

Damn metal gear solid 4 is kind of insane because when I played that on ps3 it did not feel that way. Imma need to see that be remastered I fucking love that game and is probably my favorite!
Suspicious-Truth5849
I don’t think the codex scenes do require player interaction with to progress. I think there’s a button you can press and it’ll automatically advance.
