Sony Still Does Physical Gaming Properly, Death Stranding 2 Fully Playable from Disc

  1. I went digital because Amazon decided my copy wouldn’t show up on release day. Or ever, actually. Almost felt like a meta ploy about the largest delivery service failing to deliver a game about delivering stuff. Kojima you genius!

  2. Which latest games are *not* fully playable from disc?

  3. That is absolutely nothing Sony related though, appart from the console it’s on. I doubt they demanded kojima to put it like this on disc

Edit: so i can finally forget this post in my notifications. It may or may not be on sony’s end to decide this. But most of their games are playable from the disc so there’s evidence to sugest it’s on them. Peace.

most companies do, but it’s the rotten apple trees that don’t. luckily the good old

just crossed 800k today. This might actually be a reality soon.

*unless you’re buying a collectors edition, in which case you can only go digital or buy twice

This is what we cheer about nowadays? A game being on the disc?

How does Death Stranding 2 fit on one blu ray disc? Kinda crazy thinking about now tbh, I guess we might see double and triple discs in the future before physical media completely dies. I recently gave up the fight with remote play. When I realized I couldn’t change my physical games remotely like 2 years ago… Time to transition to digital…

Right, except none of the collectors editions include discs or empty steel books even. So do they really?

Somewhat related, but I remember the shock when I bought a physical copy of a game and found only a small card with a code to activate it inside. That was the first time I genuinely felt like physical games were dying. I can’t remember which game it was. It happened many years ago.

Its insane that this is something we celebrate now.

  11. Physical is cooked. Nice to see but the wave of digital is coming, Japanese companies will probably be the last hold outs.

I enjoyed the first game well enough. I’m about 10-15 hours in DS2 and I keep finding myself getting bored.

It’s pushsquare of course it’s pro Playstation.

  14. Yeah go and try to buy the collectors edition and see where the disc is. Not even an empty steelbook.

That’s cool for people that still collect, I just started running out of room in my house for physical games, I haven’t bought a physical release in about 10 years.

The fact that something like this is newsworthy speaks volumes about the path the gaming industry is headed towards

Cool, I was actually going to pick this up on disc anyway, good to know!

People in the comment section are getting wow’ed. Its nothing Kojima or Sony related, but actually there are still plenty of examples of complete data discs sold on consoles. This 2025 year I’ve played Rise of the Ronin, LAD Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii & Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 from disc data. No requirement of any mandatory download from the internet.

Im pretty sure sony came out and said that the ps6 is likely to have a disc drive on itm but after seeing 5pro without one I’m not sure what to make of it

  20. MewinMoose

I’m getting mine physical for sure now till it comes here in my country 😭

  21. Please don’t give Sony wins for this, they’re the ones who started this whole mess in the first place.

  22. Oh my god. I never thought I’d see the day again. Awesomeness.

  23. luckyvonstreetz

Awesome, so is Nintendo though with Mario Kart, DK Bananza and other first party games being fully on the cardtridge.

  24. oh, i was gonna go get that today…thanks for the reminder.

  25. scr4tch_that

Where’s my physical Concord disc then, still waiting for it.

    PlayStation 5 discs have a 100GB capacity

Nintendo Switch 2 cartridges are 64GB.

Death Stranding 2 is 91.6GB, and is a PlayStation 5 exclusive.

This is such a dumb, bad faith article stoking console war BS. Be critical of Game Key Cards and the move to required game downloads, sure, but this ain’t it.

So then why does Sony allow other publishers to do otherwise?
