New driver from Nvidia App? No, Windows Update just kicked 576.80 to the curb.

I’ll never forget the hilarity of just chillin watching YouTube while eating Chef Boyardee Beefaroni when my whole fucking pc freezes. It never unfreezes so I restart the computer and upon reboot my second monitor connected to the iGPU doesn’t turn back on and now task manager is saying I don’t have an iGPU at all. Only fix was a DDU and reinstallation of Adrenalin and the shit worked again.

    It’s even worse on Intel

You install the latest Iris/Arc driver, and windows goes NOPE and installs 4 year old one

You can tell windows not to install drivers. That’s what I did.

Every windows update also kills my Ethernet for some reason, I have to uninstall the drivers every time and re install. Such a piece of shit, steamOS for pc can’t come soon enough. Don’t reply telling me to use Linux, I’m really not interested.

Edit: I know steamOS is Linux, but it’s not the same.

The way Microsoft handles driver updates is absurd for 2025 standards. Why can’t they ask hardware manufacturers to push their latest driver updates to Windows Update so that Microsoft can distribute them to everyone?

Everyone would have the latest available drivers from the manufacturer without having to grab .exe files. In Linux all driver updates are handled with a regular update, I imagine the same happens on MacOS. Why can’t Windows do the same?

Tell windows not to install drivers, use DDU and unplug Ethernet cable when updating drivers

I’m glad I’ve blocked updates after 23H2 permanently

576.80 has been extremely problematic for me, that might be why. I’ve had 3 random reboots since installing that update and had to run DDU + downgrade to the previous one (576.52). Has been bug free ever since.

Windows is just trying to push people away at this point. I used to laugh at Linux, but as soon as steam doesn’t support 10, I’ll try it.

I think you can switch off driver updates from Windows Update, no?

Things like this are why I do windows updates 6 months after they come out.
