I dont mind this move. Sometimes the showmatches can be too boring that it doesnt serve any purpose but delay the main event.

thanks to VRS not PGL (obviously little credit to them), 3rd place now matters

Good. Show matches haven’t been interesting in years.

  4. I love it. Means if you’re favourite team loses the semis, you still get to watch them on the last day.

ngl unless it’s featuring a new map or it’s the caches then i never cared about the showmatch and skipped it

I do love a good showmatch. The problem is that so many of them are just badly planned, with silly rules like p90 rounds.

Here’s how you can make a showmatch be entertaining: Select a map that is outside the active pool (good opportunity for a hostage rescue map), balance the teams, have them agree beforehand if they are going to tryhard or play just for funzies, and that’s it.

  7. thank you. everyone who isnt blast shouldnt do showmatches

    Great move.

Showmatches, lets face it, are just dogshit and have been for a while. It’s difficult to put together truly entertaining teams and even if you try to make it a little silly, funny, or goofy in whatever way –– who really cares.

Third place matches are useful and they let us see a potential banger between (usually) strong teams before a final.

This is a good change, but it’s a shame there wasn’t more of an effort made to make showmatches more interesting. The potential was always sky high and they were mid at best.

The most unique showmatch we’ve had was probably the dangerzone one followed by some of the recent blast ones with the goofy rounds.

Why did we never get a flying scoutsman Bo3? Or a mini wingman tournament? I always wanted to see Impact finals played where a showmatch would be, so many cool ideas.

3rd place matches are good and I like the move, but it’s sad that this kind of closes the door on the potential for interesting things.

finally, rly good news. Also VRS will make it matter way more than it would without it

  11. I don’t care about show matches, but I equally don’t care about third-place deciders.

I personally don’t care if some team wins $28k or $22k. Every tournament I was excited to see new showmatch ideas from organizers or some steamers/ex-pro/Gooseman/random viewers playing this game on arena.

Just as a fan of pro CS I think 3rd place games are a good move. Better than most show matches almost certainly.

Add to that VRS and these 3rd place decider games actually can have decent stakes on them – plus I assume TOs who adopt this move will have a reasonable prize money difference from 4th to 3rd which will help add stakes too

Bo3 and Bo5 on the same evening can get really long

havent cared abt a showmatch in years so im good with this

  16. KaNesDeath

Right call. But I feel bad for those in attendance if the final is still BO5.

Tell me you’re threatened by PGL being better tournament hosts without telling me directly…
