I enjoyed playing far cry 5, gta 5 by using only a pistol as much as I can throughout the campaign(unless I absolutely have to use an AR or sniper rifle). Can I play cyberpunk campaign that way too?

For the most part, yeah. I played a good chunk of the story with pistol, there are some really good ones later on.
Main thing though is you better build for stealth cause most combat encounters can get pretty rough with just pistol head on until you get some good guns.

Oh yeah. More so even that the other games you mentioned. There’s heavy hitters, full auto machine pistols and all rounders all in between.
Yes, you kinda can choose any weapons and just use that exclusively. I just did a very hard run on katakana and knifes, my first one was on normal with pistols and knifes. So just go with whatever you like and most importantly have fun.

Pistol headshot builds are quite viable, i think the only weapon restricted section that isnt a pistol is in the dlc where you need to do a bit of sniping.

In many ways pistols are better than rifles because of the very videogamey balancing they have going on, and this is without necessarily focusing your build on pistols.
Netrunner/pistol build is fun as hell
You can even play with a sex toy, go crazy.
I love pistols in this game and unlocked almost everything in the perk tree about them. So this game is very good with pistols.
Technically you’ll have to use another weapon a few times in the story, but otherwise go for it.
One of the things I absolutely love about this game is that everything is a viable option. Especially pistols, which usually in games are the crappiest weapon. Cyberpunk doesn’t treat them as low tier at all.
I’m half way on my 3rd playthrough, and once again I promised myself to try other weapons. I didn’t. 100% pistols again 😉

I actually find the pistol builds to be some of the most powerful in the game
They could be the strongest weapons in the game on day one if you built your character for it. I’m sure they’re still plenty viable.
There are many powerful pistols in this game. Some are more powerful than rifles
