I keep seeing posts questioning airflow all the time, It's as simple as the images in this post.

I thank you for the effort, since new builders wont give a shit and ask anyways.

  2. Objective_Lobster734

Except is recently been proven by multiple people that all top exhaust is worse than a combination intake/exhaust

  3. Wonderful-Lack3846

It depends on your case layout

  4. Jack55555

Depending on the case you could create a small turbulence area in the right top corner this way.

  5. akanetendou

You think they care? They want their personalised version of the same answer.

  6. what do you mean display glass inst porous and breathable making it conducive for good internal parts temperatures

  7. ImJoogle

i actually have my top in and front out to combat my at the time cats walking up against the case and it works well too

  8. CarsonWentzGOAT1

I would not put more exhaust fans than intake fans.

  9. El_Basho

Except it’s always better to have more intake fans than exhaust to limit dust buildup

  10. jay19167

Generally decent layouts, but you want to have at least 1 more intake fan than exhaust fan to have “positive pressure” in the case. Image 1 will have “negative pressure” and get more dust buildup around gaps in the case. Thats my preference at least.

My case has 3 intake fans and 1 exhaust fan.

Just wait until you see all posts about something clearly explained in a manual

  12. kennyminigun

Now do that for dual radiator setup

  13. Hoombus

bro is this AI? the glass panel is not smashed…

  14. DragonMaster337

What if my case only has 2 top fans and I back fan

  15. If there’s a fan shaped hole in your case and it has a dust filter it’s an intake.

If it does not have a dust filter it’s a vent.

You now know all you need to know to air cool your case.

  16. magicmike785

It is if you come to this sub and ask questions because you’re too dumb to do research

  17. CallistoAU

Nah, just put the tempered glass on the tiled floor and it’ll break then you have open case for maximum airflow

  18. smjh123

why do they call it exhaut when you out take the hot air of out hot case from cold in take?

  19. johnpickles222

I have a question about it

can you install fans at the bottom of the case where it’s faced towards the graphics card?

and if you could, would that help cool the graphics card?

  20. captainstormy

A lot of people hyper focus on “best”. Which is the difference between the first two and last two pics.

Truth is though, it’s fine. The difference between the general typical setup and best setup is usually like less than five degrees. At least when talking about case airflow.

We see this a lot with new builders. People will say “what’s the best X?”.

  21. NereusH

I do top, front and bottom intakes with side and rear as exhausts on my GPU and CPU AIO.

  22. Bkelsheimer89

Is the first two pics for AIO? I see the last two called out as air cooled so I assume this is the case.

  23. Russianc4

Lose the fan closest to the intake and I would say your sweet then

  24. Sam-Starxin

The problem isn’t the airflow itself, but rather where to place the CPU AIO (top/side, intake/exhaust).

Even worse if you have a GPU AIO too because then placement is even more difficult.

  25. PatSajaksDick

My arrows are green and yellow will that still work?

  26. Constant-Recipe-9850

To be fair. I think cabinet manufacturers should add these sort of images in the product image or a ingots sheet in the packaging for beginners

  27. itsjehmun

Just finished building my second PC and this time I chose a Lian Li A3 so airflow was a little more challenging than my giant Phanteks XT Pro. It’s amazing how often I see posts on the discord without newbies googling “does hot air rise”.

3 or 4 googles and one ask of chatgpt and airflow issues can pretty much be addressed. I don’t get it.

  28. zero_x4ever

Nah, I did #3 and my case got dusty AF easily even if my corsair 700d had a dust filter on top

  29. CombatMuffin

This is a good basic setup.

The best setup I know, for prople that care, is to find the airflow of each fan and arrange it so you get s little bit of positive pressure to help keep dust out. Has worked great.

  30. Specific_Coast5878

But if my front panel is built solid, no mesh?

  31. MagicTheBurrito

You don’t want negative pressure. Pic 1. I would not do at all. The rest are fine. But still. You only really need to exhaust in the back and the top left one on top realistically.

  32. cloudsareedible

    question!

if my PC is on the floor, wont the intake from the bottom floor of the case also suck in dust from beneath the PC?

  33. namkala

i swear i saw these kinda posts every single day on facebook group i recently joined. they don’t even bother to do some research when google is just another tab bro.

  34. CC-5576-05

Also, don’t fall for the big fan propaganda, you do not need 10 fans.

  35. MagmaElixir

I used to obsess about putting as many fans as I could in my first couple of PC builds. Nowadays I put two 140mm intake fans on the front and a single exhaust fan top back of the case. And I air cool my CPU. To be honest, I have zero issues with temps.

  36. FilthyWubs

To avoid the confusion, can I just use zero fans?

  37. oliwier000b

I remember arguing about top fan configuration with another redditor. How would you setup the top fans if you had a stock AMD cooler? There are two possibilities: all-exhaust and all-intake. The back one is exhaust of course. What do you think?
