Why can’t DDR5 have heatsinks like this…

  1. As cool as they were, RAM temps don’t really matter, once everyone worked this out, they went away

  2. alter_furz

    hell yeah!

    but,

technically, you could transplant these from such a kit to ddr5, can’t you?

  3. Valor_X

DDR5 runs more efficient at 1.1V compared to DDR3 at 1.5V

Just take them off and put them on your DDR5 sticks… ? They are all the same length mate.

  5. Proud_Chair1388

Even if it is a necessity manufacturers probably put them on DDR5s..

I had some chrome looking GeiL DDR2 or DDR3 RAM was sick

Most ram sinks are not made like that anymore because of clearance issues with coolers.

  8. Scardigne

might make less sales because of heatsink clearances

  9. Obvious_Drive_1506

Cooler clearances for the new massive coolers. Plus manufacturing costs. There’s plenty of ram heatsinks you can put on yourself

  10. PHIGBILL

DDR5 more efficient and it would likely clash with the majority of coolers….. In theory, there’s nothing stopping you removing these heat sinks and transferring them over to DDR5 sticks.

i mean.. if there’s no need then why should it exist? each generation uses less voltage

today coolers are much bigger so it is maybe a bad idea

  13. OnJerom

Probably because all they care about is profit not quality.

off-topic, but that is a beautiful photo of the motherboard. A+

DDR4 and 5 are using a lower voltage than DDR3 and wont get as hot due there higher effiency

  16. misterright1999

I mean it’ll likely fit if you take it off, but as cpus and gpus consume ongodly amounts of power you need other coolers.

Are modern RAM heatsink even useful ? I had better temps almost every time when removing them completely. I was about to do the same with my current DDR5 kit, but tweaking some Voltage settings in the Bios lowered the temps enough for me to not bother

That heatsink looks like it is made of plastic.

Why can’t ram manufacturers use proper thermal pads?

Yeah i am literally trying to find anything for desktop DDR5 with actual cooling fins because i have 4x48GB sticks that are stable at 5800 with my new CPU and tRFC needs to be 236ns for me to not get errors simply due to heat as the sticks are sideways to airflow

Coldest tops out at 57c its the one hit by the fans the hottest can reach as much as 74c because we are talking about 22w or so in a small compact area without proper cooling even tho i do have some small fans redirecting the air over the RAM heatsinks that are just blocks of aluminium

All the impedances for every pin have been manually set and the best of all 24 configs found with physical stick placement 7000 can get to desktop and playback YouTube videos in UCLK=MCLK/2 im talking almost 100 hours just for finding the correct impedances for these specific components in an individual level

Too many giant tower air coolers nowadays blocking the clearance
