Leon Kennedy was originally considered for the lead role in Resident Evil 9 • They decided his fearlessness is a ‘bad match for horror’ • He would be 51 years old during the events of ‘Requiem’

So RE9 is meant to be more horror focused and the protagonist is going to be scared and overwhelmed rather than running around like an action hero. Neat.

And yet. I still guarantee he is the main character of re9.

  3. It was a smart decision to do if they wanted to amp up the horror back up again, which was what I was wanting after RE9. I was slightly worried after Village that they’d go down a similar path to what happened after Resident Evil 4, taking the wrong lessons and going more actiony, but glad to see them pull it back, perhaps bringing back some more of that horror we saw with RE7. I think we’ll definitely see some of that RE2/3 crew show up in some way though, much like Chris did before.

His aloof nature added to the B movie feel of the earlier games. Looks like they are going more realistic with this.
I wish they went back to the earlier style of game.

what a dumb thing to say. Leon is a badass and people LIKE playing as badasses. He freakin earned it man.

Considering the direction the series has gone in since RE7, Leon, Chris and Jill are all kinda bad fits as the main protagonist. They’ve seen and been through too much to be afraid of anything at this point.

Requiem is just cakewalk now for Leon compared to raccoon city and that village in spain.

  9. Then why not Jill/Chris/Clare, hell even Ada? Why make it 30 years later and then try and convolute things to fit the narrative? I’m totally for a new RE back in Raccoon City, but it would be nice to have a new mainline game with the original main characters again. I have my doubts about this one, I hope I’m wrong.

I’d honestly love to play a worn down Leon at age 51. He’d just be Detective Crashmore and I’d pay good money for that.

and then theres the yakuza franchise where most major characters is over 50 years old.

  12. Resident Evil was never Outlast or PT or whatever else other First Person-horror trend from the 2010s Nakanishi was chasing with 7. Chris and Jill, the very first protagonists of the franchise, were literally military-trained elite special forces. That game was still horror.

I don’t like Nakanishi’s philosophy to horror games: the idea that the player feels the horror through self-inserting into the protagonist. That is not how Resident Evil is wired :/
