Do you mean visually in terms of neon and skyscrapers or in terms of violence and general awfulness?

Any large city in China, moreso Chongqing or Shanghai

I got to spend a day in Bangkok a couple months ago and was blown away by how much the Skytrain felt like riding the NCart. This and the complex vertical layering of the city – from the narrow, sometimes run down, sometimes grimy street level, to the mid rise office block above to the glitzy corpo skyacraper or a giant overpass towering above the rest – there were moments it felt downright surreal.
Wish I’d had more time to spend there because I would’ve dedicated a whole day just to ride the train around.

From those I visited – Tokyo and Osaka, minus the violence and crime.

As someone who used to live in LA, Night City feels very much like if you took all the shit parts of LA and just turned up the dial a few notches.

Tokyo and nothing really compares. Old American and European Cities all have very different engineering, the suburbs of night City are very LA and/or San Diego and city center is also LA in some regards. Actually there’s a lot of Singapore in Night City as well.

– Central in Hong Kong
– Dotonbori in Osaka
– Kabukicho in Tokyo
– Singapore

The question of the day, everyday. I’ll keep choosing different city every time until it gets silly. Today’s city: Warszawa near Babilon in Poland.

Visual : Chongqing in china
Experience : a huge city where extremely rich people live where people sleep outside by thousand.
Maybe Los Angeles or something?

Where are you gonna find a city as corrupt as Chicago, Illinois, as crime ridden as Gary, Indiana and as sleazy and corporate controlled as Las Vegas, Nevada? One with self-delusional residents who all think they are gonna make it big, are terrible drivers and just walk into traffic like they’re invincible?
Specifically one located on the coast of California?
Such a place couldn’t possibly exist.

Austin is almost there, ik that sounds crazy but just think about it, it took only 10 years of construction for all this shit to spawn in, just imagine how much denser austin will be in 2035, plus we also have robots literally all over the place so there’s that.

Visually, it’d be something in Asia. If you’re bored sometime, go look to YouTive videos of people just driving around Hong Kong, Tokyo, Shanghai. Definitely the same visual feel.
In terms of culturally, it has to be somewhere in North America. You need the mix of races and cultures. Night City is clearly American and LA is what makes sense.
In terms of “grit” or “on the street” you need something with a lot of counter culture. Portland Oregon has bananas level of gritty culture (loved visiting there) and I imagine somewhere like Berlin would fit the bill.

Y’all ever been to Bangkok? It’s huge but some parts can give you night city experience.

In terms of aesthetics, China, Japan, parts of South Korea, I think Singapore.
In terms of violence nowhere. Unless you watch fox news then I guess Chicago or Baltimore.

If we are going by its assumed geographical location and general lawlessness, I’m going to have to say Los Angeles. However, LA isn’t nearly that beautiful to look at, I’d imagine they used elements from various cities around the world for the visual representation. Either way, it’s quite the masterpiece to see while trekking through NC. I notice something new to me every time I start a new play through.

Throw the crime of Memphis inside of the tech worship and balkanization of San Francisco, and plop it down in LA, with a syncretic mishmash of Hong Kong aesthetics.

I’ve always compared it to Tokyo, but that’s based mostly on what I’ve seen on the internet lol

Los Angeles crossed with Hong Kong
Kowloon City in China would have been Night City if it wasn’t torn down in 1995.
Corruption and crime. Dense population. Some areas lavish. Some destitute.
The interviews with residents since then have given it a mythic status. Loved. Hated.
