Microsoft says that ‘Windows 11 PCs are up to 2.3X faster than Windows 10 PCs’, neglecting to mention that it’s comparing apples to bowling balls

Yeah right… It’s likely some extremely obscure optimisation they have done which they can then vaguely use to show a “2.3x increase”.

A bowling ball would be faster while rolling.

In other news: the 12600k is faster than the 8700k

This is the link that is supposed to back up their claims from that page for anyone interested.

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/legal/windows/windows11-performance-claims

It looks like they were comparing only older Win10 laptops using 6th, 8th, or 10th Gen Intel platforms to newer Win11 laptops using 12th and 13th Gen Intel platforms.

Which… seems a little suspect to me lol.

It also looks like they avoided desktops all together with zero direct before and after testing on the same rig.

Average windows 10 pc is not as good as average windows 11 pc because windows 10 runs on older hardware. More news at 11!

i’m running Start11, makes my 11 machine look like Windows 10. It’s a great utility!

  7. The key extract from a link at the bottom of the MS blogpost that is in this article:

    >**Windows 11 PCs are up to 2.3x faster than Windows 10 PCs**

    >Based on testing performed by Microsoft in December 2024 using Geekbench 6 Multi-core score comparing a selection of Windows 10 PCs with Intel Core 6th, 8th and 10th generation processors and Windows 11 PCs with Intel Core 12th and 13th generation processors. Performance will vary significantly by device and with settings, usage and other factors.

I’m not surprised they made sure you had to pass through another link to get to this information as it’s despicable. As PCgamer said, comparing apples to bowling balls, there’s no basis for making any claim here.

i7-10700K, Z490 Pro, DDR-3000, rx 7900 xtx… my bench marks on 3d mark and pc mark 10 are better under win11 than under win10.

  9. haztech99

How about M$ take that 8th or 10th gen with Windows 10 and compare how fast it runs on Windows 11. Probably 5-10% faster on Win 10.

  10. destry28

Bruh sometimes my fucking explorer takes up to 2 minutes to start. Even the whole OS is shortly dying because of this. Never had this issue with win10

  11. Norbluth

Ms are the kings are skewing stats to make them look good in the moment. They’ve done it forever on the Xbox side. You’ll see shit like “42 billion steps taken in first 24 hours- most of any Xbox exclusive in history!” Shit like that.

  12. Rrrrockstarrrr

Hardly the first time, they bragged about Explorer back in the days when comparing it to Netscape. But, thing is, Netscape had slower modem!

  13. Rrrrockstarrrr

And to add, 11 IoT is indeed faster than my old 10 Pro that I used for 5 years, with basically default settings.

  14. AzureArmageddon

    Oh so they lied

What they meant to say is that the PCs that run Windows 11 are generally faster than those that run Windows 10

  15. monchota

Yeah , 11 is faster, after they turn off all the things we can’t.

  16. Cymelion

Man I really hope Steam OS releases an official PC version before October cut off point really don’t want to be forced onto 11.

  17. Stickel

so they’re pulling nVIDIA style marketing, got it, lol

  18. Sync1211

Depending on the source, the speedup between 6th gen and 13th gen is around 240%-260%…

  19. The sole reason I’m not on Linux yet is because of Steelseries GG software

  20. EJ_Tech

This is a False Equivalence fallacy, right?

  21. Hedhunta

What a weird stat. Of course they are, because win 10 can be installed on literally _anything_ made in the last 10-15 years… maybe even older.

Win 11 restricts what it can installed on artificially to newer pcs… so it would be a shock if they weren’t faster…..

  22. Hurricane_32

_If my grandmother had wheels, she would have been up to 2.3X faster than a bike_

  23. Specialist-Sun-5968

Meanwhile games actually run faster on SteamOS.

  24. Friendly-Advantage79

They’re missing the point entirely. This is not how one compares OS’s influence on the PC’s speed. What you do is you take a WIN 10 PC, benchmark it up the wazoo (CPU, GPU, RAM, temps, voltages, the works) Then upgrade that PC to WIN 11 and repeat all the testing you’ve done. Without changing any of the hardware. Then compare the results.

  25. Divini7y

I am now only macOS and Linux guy. Microsoft is going down hill.

  26. blueangel1953

11 is a bloated mess even after removing all of the bloat you can, they can have it.

  27. sloany84

Someone should do a proper test on the same hardware, won’t be surprised if Windows 10 is actually faster.
