“We Couldn’t Have Made A Better Dragon Age And We’re Proud Of It ” Dragon Age The Veilguard Developer Claps Back At Everyone Saying They Made A Bad Game
“We Couldn’t Have Made A Better Dragon Age And We’re Proud Of It ” Dragon Age The Veilguard Developer Claps Back At Everyone Saying They Made A Bad Game
The industry standard response “Everyone is wrong but us.”
I miss when game studios had humility.

Lol
Cope.
If true thats a big self-report
Fun-Maintenance1217
Even geniuses making all time great 10/10 games…. will still admit they got stuff wrong
Cmon guys
gattar5
this is a smack in the face of redditors who believe game devs are oppressed slaves and every bad game is bad because of the people in “suits”
dogeblessUSA
if this is your best you have a lot more problems than internet backlash
FreddyForshadowing
If they’re happy with the end product, good for them. Other people weren’t. That’s just how it goes.
CaptCynicalPants
Ok cool, guess there’s no reason for me to get hyped for any more of your games then
TrickOut
Yea so when everyone says it’s always management and never the devs, that just isn’t true lol. Sometimes the devs are shit as well as

There’s being proud of the work you did in spite of the obstacles, then there is this
RyokoKnight
Ooof, you know I don’t think I’ve ever seen developers have to “clap back” and defending a game when its actually good.
A good product can stand on its own without needing to be defended, especially almost a year after it came out.

“We couldn’t have made a better Dragon Age Game”
I believe you. But someone else definitely could have.

It’s okay to be proud of the work you did but what is with these developers and this attitude that the fans MUST like their games? Some serious principal Skinner vibes there.
Who would have known when No Man’s Sky released that they would become the gold standard for developer response?
miniguy555
If thats the best you can do with years of work, millions in funding and a dedicated fan base, you really need to evaluate how to make games.
The game was not terrible but it was medicore at best. Some of that stems expectaions from previous installments in the DA franchise but this was a half assed attempt at best.
TheAngryFart
Yeah is that why Sony gave it to me for free in their monthly games 3 months after it came out? 😂🤣
Nutshell_92
I thought it was fun and really didn’t understand all the controversy and hate lol

I can see what he was going for and I don’t hate Veilguard. However, to say a better one wasn’t possible seems very tone deaf and lacks inward perception of what they made.
It is definitely a compromised product but I don’t expect them to come out and say that for professional reasons. It’s a case where it’s often better to just not say anything at all.
dredd-garcia
I liked Veilguard. Had room for improvement maybe but so did all of the games

With our current direction we couldn’t have…

I got the game for free so I gave it a shot, I was bored to tears in the first hour.
BenekCript
The game was okay. The sexist bigots are a loud minority unfortunately. The writing itself could have been better, but also was never going to satisfy everyone.
RedGearedMonkey
To be fair, Veilguard is not bad. It’s heavily inconsistent and not up to par with other DA titles, 2 included given how its writing mops up shop with 4.

You can stop right there

Truly wanted to see if the stuff people cried wokeyman about was bad or not, but couldn’t play more than an hour. Felt SO BAD to control. Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning came out more than a decade ago and showed how to make a competent RPG in this vein with action that felt good. Unforgivably bad action gameplay in Veilguard. Even the first hour of Inquisition felt better to play, but I fell off that too.

>We couldn’t have made a better Dragon Age
That does not bode well for the future of the studio…
Reed7525
Except ya did. With the first game. And to a lesser extent the second.
wingednosering
I’m sure nobody cares about my opinion here, but these devs do actually have a lot to be proud of. I didn’t play it, but know others who did and watched lots of reviews since DA:O was one of my favourite games ever.
The technical state of the game was very impressive. It performed well. The art direction was well realized (whether you like the disneyfication or not is subjective).
The scope was huge and it was technically delivered upon. Where it stumbled and got backlash was in the design and writing departments. Bad puzzles, boring combat and weak writing led to fans [understandably] disliking it.
But let’s not pretend this was an Andromeda level catastrophe. Hundreds of people worked effectively on this game and did a good job.
