Yeah, consoles are cheaper than PCs… But PCs are cheaper than consoles + a laptop that can’t play games well…

While the online part is true, the used game market on consoles is very active and real, steam sales are not as good as they used to be and gpu prices are insane. I dont think pc gaming is much cheaper in the long run.
It’s better because of various reasons, but not cheaper.

  2. fafarex

presented like that I prefere the 2nd one, I have no envy to get around with a gaming laptop (it’s either weak or it’s heavy and has no autonomie)

  3. da_3_inch_big_dog

Most people need to be able to take their computer with them places.

  4. bcgibsontheonlyone

Subtract the online service and the MacBook

  5. Er_Lord_Shizu

How has this nonsense not been down voted to oblivion?

  6. pirate135246

Gaming laptops are the worst of both worlds. Build a pc and buy a cheap laptop if you need a work device you aren’t distracted by.

  7. High_Overseer_Dukat

Pc games are free. thats the main reason for them.

  8. Square-Instance9677

I have a gaming PC and PS5 at home.

My computer is an HP elite X4 (like the HP version of the Microsoft surface, but with a 13 inch screen and better specs).

If I ever feel the need I just break that bad boy out and play either one on either remote Play or parsec.

I know this argument isn’t really that old in the grand scheme of things, but this argument IS old.

    Buy what you want 🤷🏼‍♂️

  9. squarey3ti

Okay, what if I accidentally need a laptop anyway?

  10. RedBoxSquare

I don’t know why steam deck is classified as handheld gaming console but you can do everything with it (including using it docked as a desktop)

  11. likeonions

as a former gaming laptop victim, I think they suck. monstrously hot and 3 minutes of battery life. Just get a desktop for gaming.

  12. BoingBoingBooty

I hate to say it but this is dumb. If you also need a laptop for work or whatever, just get a $400 Dell donkeybook.

  13. aradaiel

Working on a Mac is infinitely better than working on a gaming pc. I’d much rather the console+Mac if I was limited to these 2 scenarios

  14. Brawndo_or_Water

You can’t travel with a desktop, as in leave home with it.

  15. TacticalNopeNopeNope

I have both a PS5 and gaming laptop. Say what you want about gaming laptops. I know it’s not the most powerful, but I like mine and that’s all that matters. Just do what makes you happy and buy what you want.

  16. “PCs are better than a PS5 Pro”

“Is your PC better than a PS5 Pro?”

    “Yes.”

  17. El_Giganto

Sure but I got my €1600 macbook for free from work, so…

  18. CoshgunC

    Yeah, consoles are cheaper.

    But playing on them not

  19. vinny10133

That’s stupid at least say 1500 dollar desktop. Laptops are awful

  20. Alarming-Elevator382

Steam sales aren’t even good anymore, Xbox and Playstation offer the same discounts. Gaming laptops are a bad value because the laptop 5090 is slower than a 5070Ti.

  21. StygianStrix

$1200 desktop setup plus a $300 tablet is honestly a better experience imo

  22. Flu77ershy

Nobody who’s sole problem is cost is buying a $1200 mac either. If someone’s spending that much on a mac laptop, there’s a reason they need it. Maybe a program windows doesn’t have, maybe they need their computer to look professional at work. But nobody is buying gaming laptops then pretending it’s a work machine. Consoles suck, but that doesn’t make every “dur hurr console bad” argument a good one.

  23. LionAlhazred

There are just as many sales on consoles now.

  24. Immortalphoenixfire

Oh but you have to spend 5 whole dollars on any game, dlc, or microtransaction on steam to permanently unlock what’s $60 a year forever on console

    That’s comparable right?

  25. MuchBow

For just games it’s just better to get a desktop pc.

“Gaming Laptops” are a bit of a scam. They can’t compete with their desktop counterparts, battery life is absolutely abysmal. Go limp without being plugged. Screens are not colour accurate atleast at $1500. Turn into a jet turbine after playing for more than 15mins and build quality is mostly plastic with keyboards that flex more than a yoga instructor at a limbo contest.

Funny thing is that those other options are actually not bad if desktop is not an option. For around $1700~1800 you can get a console with a gamepass or a handheld like steam deck or something similar and a laptop with a great battery life and colour accurate screen for work as well as watching movies and entertainment.

  26. Smooth-Chest-1554

I would like to have a gaming laptop.
I know that they are prone to be very hot and have lesser specs than desktop PC.
But I don’t have much space in my room and on my desk to put whole desktop PC.
I’ve had a problem to find a place for my Series X.

  27. chipface

Doesn’t online cost a fuckton more now?

  28. Tsundere_Valley

Yeah, but in a few years I will still have a MacBook in good condition and a windows gaming laptop probably won’t. Or at least I will be carrying the husk of a has-been laptop that’s deformed by the heat of long gaming sessions and pleading to be put behind its misery when the next gen of games come out and it can’t run them.

I still have a use for the MacBook that got me through college, even if it’s mostly lining a shelf these days.

  29. Chemical-Swing453

It also depends on what games you play…with current GPU pricing. I don’t see myself leaving integrated anytime soon…

  30. LilJashy

I mean, anybody who buys a MacBook is insane, unless you’re designing iOS apps or something like that.

Bring on the down votes though

  31. colossusrageblack

A $700 laptop with a 4060 can be had these days. They regularly go on sale. They can play pretty much anything at 1080p.

  32. Ragnaroknight

    So many gaming laptop haters.

Not everyone wants to sit at a desk in their room. I have to spend time with other people, the laptop lets me be in the same room, and still game, it gives me flexibility I don’t get with a desktop.

I’ve tried the SFF PC hooked up to a TV thing before, and even that’s still a pain in the ass, compared to the simplicity of a console.

  33. UsefulChicken8642

i used to think consoles were ungodly expensive. they aren’t

consoles are the best possible graphics at the lowest possible price. cheapest parts, to get the lowest possible performance that will be accepted by the masses.

i can’t go back to anything lower than 110fps at 1440p with my 3080ti.

  34. counterlock

How does the macbook fit into this whatsoever???

  35. quajeraz-got-banned

    Gaming laptops suck, though.

  36. CumAcneTreatment

I mean you buy the pc and the games are free.

  37. Previous-Register871

Yeah, it’s only a decent investment if you don’t mind just working with Dos Era and Early 2000s PC games more and maybe some of the fighting games. This is kind of the problem with most people that never bought a PC setup before. They look at buttons and screen and turn into naive people.

  38. AhabRasputin

I love how you add the macbook in there to cope. Desktop Pc is the better choice for performance, but from a cost perspective console is gonna win. And ill take a ps5 over a $1500 gaming laptop any day.

  39. soggycheesestickjoos

maybe i’m bad at building cheaper PCs but you can get a $300 series s and $400 refurbished M1 macbook air for a pretty cheap combo with likely better performance for work on the laptop.

  40. rudystraight8

Or I’ll just keep pirating games on my handheld pc

  41. Ludicrits

People really gotta stop with the steam sales argument. The sales on psn for example are very comparable to steam sales. Sometimes even a little cheaper.

Steam sales are not what they used to be.

  42. PSYCH00M

Consoles are the most convenient. no downloading drivers, 500000 third party launchers, windows bullshit, controller support being terrible without ds4, custom graphics settings that 99% of people dont even understand what they mean etc. yes PC is better and long term actually cheaper than consoles due to no subscription and cheaper games but it’s not portable and not something you just turn on and play

I bet even people in this sub probably don’t know what tesselation is because I sure don’t lmao
