At least it’s not as bad as the later chalk outlines.
I thought the point was that the chalk outlines were drawn by a child (Samantha). I think at this point the story wasn’t really decided they just knew there was a girl that was involved in experiments who controlled the zombies. Honestly it wasn’t even a story it was just some random pieces of lore. They 100% made the maps and then tried to come up with a story afterwards and were not taking it that serious. Like in my opinion they fucked up big time by nuking the earth on moon because then they had to deal with that for the rest of the story. Bo2 seems to be the first COD where the story was created with the maps but even then they fucked up the end of bo2 by doing the samatha dolls cutscene in origins and the only way to fix that mess was to introduce a whole multiverse bs thing.
I know people probably glaze the story but shit got ridiculous for me after bo1 and it really changed the vibe forever.

Yeah, it’s alway bugged me a little, but honestly anything wrong with Black Ops 1 that doesn’t hinder gameplay just comes off as charming in 2025
