Switch 2 LCD Screen Slowest on Record

Damn, a company that test things posting results comparing it to the industry can’t even do that without the glazing brigade here to defend it

On PC I game on a 144hz ultrawide OLED monitor. The switch 2 screen bothered me for like one minute before my eyes adjusted. If I want to go for perfect visuals I’ll hop on my PC, but the switch 2 looks great for a handheld. Do I wish it was OLED? Yeah, but it’s still the best handheld there is.

Some people are very angry that this article would besmirch their priceless toy.

  4. Island_Monkey86

It’s atrocious, shocking, just the worst! Wait… What are we talking about? I was to busy having fun playing the switch 2 in handheld despite the internet saying I shouldn’t.Ā

  5. Article seems to suggest it’s a sacrifice they made to keep it as thin as it is instead of a chonky bitch like the PC handhelds. (Smaller battery)

Thankfully it isn’t distracting … yet. Still should have gone OLED.

  6. Zoombini22

Its something I can notice if I look for it but my eyes quickly adjust and it doesn’t detract for me, tbh. DF speculated that it could be fixed with a firmware update. Hope that happens to help out those who are bothered by it.

Retro game corps did a video about this display, I think it is worth checking out. His hypothesis is that Nintendo isn’t feeding the display enough power to save on battery.

  8. Clean_Difference0

Nintendo has always been known for crappy outdated hardware. Having said that, you’re not playing really competitive multiplayer games on this thing like cod/csgo that require that low of latency. I personally can’t tell that it’s slow, coming from 240hz gaming PC.

  9. Milky_Finger

“It’s not noticeable enough for me, I’m happy as it is” is literally how the downfall of everything starts. Stop defending trash just because it’s your trash, and start expecting greatness.

  10. TheMustardisBad

Nintendo is the Apple of the gaming world, considering how both fans act the same anytime something negative is said.

  11. Captain__Trips

Damn that really shows the importance of a fast screen…not that much lol

  12. GrandSnake0

Nintendo fans deserve it, let them continue to pay a premium on out of date hardware šŸ˜‚

    Incoming angry fanboys when?

  14. Stop! You’re hurting the billion dollar company’s feelings!

  15. BagadonutsImposter

I can’t imagine giving a shit about something so inconsequential to the majority of folks.

  16. Merciful_Ampharos

Well shit. I was really enjoying this thing, and never noticed this issue. I guess I’ve got to return it now…

  17. jimmyjay11

Leave the billion dollar company alone. They’re trying their best.

In my real life experience: It is extremely apparent in high paced multiplayer games like fortnite that there’s a disconnect between what you input and what is happening. I thought I was tripping but now I see it was that speed that throws everything off. It’s very noticeable there. Especially because I regularly play all plugged in on a fast gaming monitor.

That being said, everything else I’ve played handheld? Not a single issue. Mario Kart World feels normal to me. As does Tears of the Kingdom, Astral Chain and Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate. It’s strange but in single player games you are hard pressed to notice a huge difference. Since that’s most of what I play personally, I have been having a blast these past few weeks.

I do hope they can do an ota update to fix it. It’s crazy that such a thing went unnoticed or ignored. Very bad practice

  19. I’ll be getting the switch 2 ooee whenever/if it’s out for sure

Now, I don’t understand here why they are using something very slow, OF COURSE many people have different sensitivity to this sluggish mcd issue and most won’t even notice, no one is denying it

I just don’t understand because I’m convinced this display firmware can easily fix this (pixel overdrive, aggressive battery-saving features etc)

  20. JimJohnman

Good lord the comments on this are sad.

    Nintendo fans ā˜•ļø

  21. That explains why the in store demo is connected to a TV instead of playing on the device like all the old Switches next to it

  22. wid890979

I guess I can’t enjoy my switch anymore? Kidding. I’m sorry that this will affect some people, but it doesn’t affect me or my kids. I hope the people who don’t like it get something better they can enjoy in handheld mode. For the rest that don’t seem to notice… have fun !

  23. Vegetable_Cup_6576

I’m not really familiar with screen tech. When they say the display is ā€œslow,ā€ what does that mean? I thought it had 120hz refresh, which is faster than the Switch 1.

  24. Naive_OrangeGuy

500$ and you get a 33ms input delay. That is astonishingly horrible. What a scam lol

  25. My question is this how many will really notice? As I get older I find I don’t see details like that as well as I used to. I now need reading glasses (1.5) never need glasses before I was 40. And now 8 years later I need them just to read.

Also this would seem to be a problem in portable mode. I am sure it does not affect docked mode (I am one that is 95% docked mode when I play it. I tend to play my PS5 a lot more)

And no I am not a Nintendo fan boy trying to damage control. Heck I in yhe past been accused of being a Sony pony.

  26. wtf is this coordinated campaign? “the slowest screen, here it is a video recorded with a special camera at 1500fps because the human eye can’t see it”

  27. Redsoxdragon

Can’t wait to see the fan boys pouring out like “lEaVe ThE pOoR bIlLiOn DoLlalAr CoMpAnY aLoNe”

  28. brigthebrain

Oh my, I must be a gaming God then because I was able to finish 40 P-Switch challenges in handheld mode, outside and it was a sunny day.

    >Our first data point isĀ Monitors Unboxed. They found the Switch 2 returned an average pixel response time of 33 ms at 60 Hz. That’s significantly worse than the slowest monitor the YouTube channel has tested, which came in at 19 ms, and far slower than a “typical” high-performance PC gaming monitor with an LCD display, which comes in around the 5 to 6 milliseconds mark.

Why the hell are they trying to compare it to a high-performance gaming PC? That’s like saying my potato has more carbs than my PS5 so you def shouldn’t by a PS5.

  30. I saw something on YouTube that likely referenced similar testing:

    – Slow response time

    – Higher color temperature to make the screen seem brighter (at the cost of color accuracy)

    – Low actual brightness – too low to qualify as a HDR screen.

  31. It’s always funny to see a post where everyone is complaining about defenders.Ā

With only a couple of posts actually defending out of hundreds.Ā

It’s like you’re trying to will into existence a fight

  32. Surprised they didn’t update the absolute dogshit switch thumbsticks. 80$ games and they want me to play it on tiny ass 50 cent thumbsticks.

  33. SteppeTalus

Funny because the only comments I’m seeing are smug redditors talking about all the fanboys pouring in to defend it lol. Like go outside.

  34. The only time I have managed to notice this is cyberpunk. If you watch the cars internal speedometers, the numbers blur together a bit.Ā

It’s a pretty good example of price versus feasibility . I’m sure a better screen is possible. But they must have already been worried about the price

  35. tylerderped

I called this from the moment the switch 2 was announced without having an OLED screen.

  36. Major_Enthusiasm1099

Everyone should wait for the OLED anyways

  37. Front-Win-5790

Look, while this might be true, I honestly cannot tell while playing. I’m not going to bust out a 1000fps camera to make sure of it either. I’m not glazing but 120fps is 120fps idk how it could be “slow”

So it’s 28ms slower than a high-performance PC gaming monitor? Why the fuck should anyone care about this?

  39. mobo_dojo

Haven’t noticed any issues with the screen. I’ve actually been playing rush rally origins which is a competitive isometric racing game. It was unplayable on the original switch due to stuttering.
