> The man in question is Jamal Reed-Obafumi, who is said to have targeted multiple public libraries in Northern California. As spotted by GameSpot, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook it had arrested 45-year-old Reed-Obafumi earlier this month, on 17th June.
> The Office alleged Reed-Obafumi was “connected to a string of at least seven different burglaries of Marin County Libraries”. These incidents took place between April and June of this year, although specific libraries were not mentioned.
>According to the Facebook post, Reed-Obafumi now faces 12 felony charges. These include multiple “counts of burglary”, in addition to “committing a felony while out on bail”, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office said, before closing: “Our libraries are pillars of the community and must be safeguarded for everyone to enjoy!”
Of all the places to steal from a public library is up there on the list of some of the worst.
You’re not taking a rounding error from a big corporation you’re taking an item that has to be replaced out of a fixed budget from an entity whose entire existence is dedicated to equitably helping spread knowledge and provide resources to the underprivileged.

This ironically might turn into a hidden boon for the libraries. If this goes viral and/or makes the evening news cycle, sympathy and awareness will skyrocket and they may get significant donations from outraged and sympathetic people in response. They could even make more in these donations than they lost in the burglaries.

I still remember discovering when my local library had Wii U, Wii, PS4, and Xbox One/360 games. It brought me back to the days of renting from a Blockbuster or Hollywood Video. The endless list of blu rays, CD’s, and DVD’s were amazing as well.

I wish there was more details on how the theft occured. I’m curious if this is a ‘straight-up took the games’ retail style theft, or if he checked them out & didn’t return them. He’s an ass either way, I just wanna know how much effort went into it!
