He self amputated when bitten in Verruckt, as we see a scribble on the wall of an arm being bitten by a zombie with a bone saw next to it.

Richtofen took it off, as we see a poster in Shi No Numa by the doctor equipment near the Doctor's Quarters which depicts an arm and says something about how "it can even be ripped off with enough force". Also there don't seem to be bandages on his arm to prevent too much blood loss which he would need to get from Germany to Japan.
Has it ever been confirmed what really happened?

They used to create monkey bomb. So Peter is connected with 115 through the camp edvard and der riese facility/der eisendesc/Syberia / Tunguska (tag der toten lab). We don’t which he did create, but it’s probably der riese and was retcoon into der eisendrache where we see Samantha’s room
I always thought his arm ripped off by the power switch since it has an arm holding onto the switch, but that might’ve just been a fan theory I heard ages ago
The most known theory would be that the arm on power in Verrukt is his arm
