I’ve been on a kick lately trying out random games that look deceptively simple but end up kicking my a$$. I recently downloaded this one where you’re literally just a foot flopping through walls, and it’s somehow rage-inducing and relaxing at the same time. 😂

What’s been that one game for you lately that you thought would be chill but turned out to be surprisingly tough (or addicting)?

Let’s hear 'em.

edit:
game is called Floppy Feet if tryna beat my high score

Balatro. The beginning is super chill and easy going. Once you start going into the higher difficulties the game becomes a high stakes probability simulator where you have to seek out the most optimal joker synergies to clear the antes.

    Is that Anger Foot?

One I found infuriatingly and deceptively difficult was Super Meat Boy on Xbox 360. It’s on other platforms but that’s where I played it first.

Factorio (aka cracktorio), space age dlc included

I’ve been Playing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. It’s kicking my ass and I love it.

^((I’m not good at the whole parry/dodge thing in games.))

Doom Eternal is pretty hard, sometimes i die and don’t even know what hit me.

Maybe it just wasn’t for me but I’ve tried to get into Don’t Starve multiple times and it always proves to be incredibly difficult. Don’t think I ever made it even halfway through the first winter.

  7. Apollo2068

Lies of P, had to switch the difficulty to easier

Most people only think they beat returnal but they didn’t. The ending is locked behind one of the hardest runs I’ve ever seen in videogame history. To beat the game you essentially need to make one clean run through the entire game from start to finish one last time. No checkpoints, nothing, just get there. Towards the final third, there’s rooms where they essentially double or tripled the bosses and you’re running for your life, firing back at them and it gets insane. When I beat one of the mini boss rooms my hands were literally vibrating from adrenaline

Finding time to play video games is a pretty hard game.

It seems I’ve been taking it easy this year, but even a game that used to be challenging for me, Monster Hunter, came and went. I breezed through high rank so now Im sitting on my hands waiting for more. So now the only thing that comes to mind is VERY recent: Deltarune. Chapter 3 SPOILERS ahead…

    >!…The Roaring Knight took me like, 10-15 tries over the course of a few days. I ought to practice Touhou between chapters to prepare for whatever absurdity awaits in the future.!<

Stellar Blade. The bosses kick my ass until I learn how to dance around their attacks. This is because I don’t play souls-likes, and Sekiro kicked my ass as well. Also, the Jump Monster kills me on the regular because I miss jumps.

Oh, and don’t get me started on those annoying horse hammearhead bastards. XD

  12. lemonloaff

Ninja Gaiden for NES. Although, it is not as hard as I thought it would be, but learning the final boss fight is hell.

  13. Lies of P was unsurprisingly not chill, at times it feels like it aims to piss you off, I don’t know if I’d recommend it despite ploughing to the end.

I expected Monster Train 2 to be chill but it ramps things up quite a lot and you really need to exploit mechanics to have a chance.

Mutha fuckin Elden Ring man. It’s teaching me emotional intelligence.

Sifu by a mile. Souls games, Roguelites, puzzle games, competitive games, I can swing them all. But Sifu? That was absolutely brutal.

And I love every minute of it.

  16. rain world is the actual definition of this. incredibly realistic ecosystem and you are at the bottom and slowly climb up through experience, knowledge, and skill. no power upgrades, just you improving (but it’s always hard lmao no matter how good you are). genuinely one of the most beautiful games i’ve played. it’s awesome and so rewarding

  17. Reiny_Days

    Nine sols.
True ending final boss is the hardest boss I beat in my life. I had my fair share of frustrations with the game though, playing through it. You just die too quick, certainly during boss battles…

  18. neo_sporin

I play most games on hard, so I’m okay with a bit of challenge. But man, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron broke me. I had to lower it to normal/medium.

Also Nier Automata opening was too long without a save on hard.

  19. Brilliant_Finding_51

Dwarf fortress. Ive started and stopped this game at least 5-6 times a year.

  20. BigFudge6710

Death Stranding mostly because I’m still figuring out the mechanics.

  21. Good_Smile

    Crash Bandicoot 4, that’s Spain without s to 100%

Also Lobotomy Corporation, Library of Ruina and Rain World, those are just insanely hard to beat in the first place.

  22. King_Jeebus

    S.T.A.L K.E.R.

They just released (*free* for existing owners!) an “enhanced edition”, so I’m back in the Zone – it’s been decades since I saved so much!

The opposition are *hard*, smart, and surprising. If you aren’t careful you die. The inventory weight limits force hard choices, ammo is scarce, guns/armour can’t be repaired, no pause when in inventory/map, and there’s no fast-travel.

…so I get incredible *moments* – huddling in a ruined attic looking out into a dark stormy night just *listening* to whatever is out there, and never finding what it is… switching off the Scorcher then seeing 22 enemy markers appear on the PDA and checking ammo and knowing it’s going to be bad… seeing a red-marker on the minimap and immediately stopping and diving for cover… backing off an overwhelming force but suddenly hearing the Geiger counter go crazy…

    …what a game!

Hollow knight. My reactions aren’t what they use to be
