I had a friend in college who was this exact person. Had a giant collection of music and movies. Acted like he was an art critic all the time, asked everyone to call him Ringo and always talked up the Beatles.

For those who don’t get it:
a method of pirating software is by downloading files called torrents online, which require a torrent installer in order to be downloaded.
These torrent installers basically connect to other users who already have the file downloaded, and it gets the files from them. Basically other people are supplying you with the files for the pirated software.
After the torrent download is complete, the file starts “seeding,” which is basically you sharing the download files with other people. If you stop the seeding, you basically just took the files from someone else and refused to share them again.
This is frowned upon because if everyone just downloaded the file and never seeded anything, the torrent would die out because nobody has the already downloaded files on their computer.
TLDR:
You take pirated files from someone else and you don’t share them

Yeah, he’s an amateur. A sane person would have disabled seeding in the torrent agent itself. 😂

I always seed until my SSD is 75% full. After this point, I randomly choose some torrent to delete to make space for the new one.

I heard once that our laws are locally structured so that uploading would be considered illegal distribution, that combined with low internet speeds has left me at never seeding anything.

I dl’ed and seeded once over 8 years ago. My landlord back then questioned me agrily why I was downloading ‘pirate’ software and files, they then threatened to remove me if I kept it up.
I was new to the torrent thing and was downloading and seeding for dayys. Apparently the isp sent a email telling them to stop doing w.e I was doing and threatened legal action. Ever since I just stopped dl’ing/seeding and now pay subscription services for movies. My landlord was a lawyer and it was quite a huge deal.

I remember I torrented Bus Sim21 a few months ago and it was seeding after the download has been complete. I’ll be honest, I would do that seeding whenever it is possible help people out. We gotta cover each others ass to protect each other from those greedy mfker corporations.

…. You guys know that some people aren’t tech savvy enough to seed securely, that some IP and countries heavily punish piracy if you are the sharer right ? Not everyone has the knowledge/will to pay for a VPN to bind to their client, and prefer not to seed to avoid punishment. Not everyone is in a third world country where no one gives a flying fuck

I do it cuz I am afraid of being bestraft by seeding the file. And most of the files hosted by Russians anyway

In my country it isn’t really illegal to download pirated software but it is illegal to share pirated software, they monitor torrents based on how much you upload, so for some people it’s the only choice.

I always seed to atleast 1.0, giving back what I took
soldier_of_death
I could never seed because Comcast would even catch wind of the downloads, i wouldn’t get an hour into the seed before they would cut my internet. That was in like 2012.

I have multiple streaming subscriptions, still torrenting when the quality matters. Its just not the same to stream 4K from netflix at 8mbps, or watch a bluray remux at 80-100mbps. And i dont want to have physical media t home. i dont want to store it, be careful with it, and has nothing to play it on.
This way it doesnt feel like piracy to me.

Noone really knows youve done it or will force you to do it, it doesnt directly benefit you to do it. So what kind of person are you? the one who just wants to make life better/convenient for the next random stranger in the world.
Or the person who just moves along once they get what they want?

In a legal sense, dissemination is much worse than downloading. Better your new boyfriend stays out of jail than be labelled an a-hole
