Having fallen down a rabbit hole while cleaning, I just wanna say it is criminal that this game’s soundtrack didn’t get the acknowledgement it deserved.

Imho, best soundtrack a game has ever had from someone who’s been gaming since real-time 3d running at more than 11 fps was a pipedream.

It went to against a Nier game the year it got it’s nomination. Phantom Liberty also deserved a soundtrack nom tbh

It most definitely did! It spawmed like a few genres in edm and pop. There’s so many YouTube videos on “how to make cyberpunk synths”. Probably the most influential video game to the music industry ever.

My little ADHD brain felt overwhelmed by the game at first but driving around with radio vexelstrom kept me playing the game long enough to figure it out.

Well, their is perception and controversy for you.
They could have given PL atleast some awards but at the time Cyberpunk was still hot mess, reaction would have been wild. Wish there was another expansion. And then there is the thing that expansions don’t get nominations.

For me, „Isometric air“ is not only the best track from the OST but also one of my favourite tracks of all time:
Yea it absolutely nailed the vibe for the game. One of the best soundtracks for a game ever.

Soundtrack nominations are bizarre in general. There isn’t every really any elaboration on what gets graded and what standards the osts are judged by. Smaller games also instantly lose because noone cares about the ost in pathfinder, a niche crpg for which a million sales was a major milestone. Games like bg3 get nominated despite having a nothing of an ost, only two songs of which you’ll ever see people mention. I think it’s a popularity circlejerk. I doubt any of these people took the time to understand what the individual games osts are doing and why
It definitely got a lot of acknowledgement, even when everyone was shitting on the game for a while. Rebel Path is still relevant meme music as well.

The fact that they went so deep creating in universe music by fictional bands is incredible to me. It’s one of the first things I tell musician friends about and their minds are always blown.
And the fact that Samurai is LITERALLY fucking Refused?! Made my little millennial post-hardcore heart fill with joy. Not to mention that one of the missions is just you getting to play a club gig with them. Just too good.

Only reason this soundtrack isn’t the best in gaming, is because the GOTG game exists

Not gonna say it should’ve etc. but this soundtrack had some amazing pieces.
