My local library rents out video games for free. You should check to see if yours does as well.

Some even do consoles and almost all do hotspots these days if your internet goes down. Libraries are awesome. Shitloads of DVDs too.

Back in the day, i played rayman2 thanks to tgr library

Our library you can check out power tools like electric saws and drills. They are far beyond just books anymore.

These posts always make me envious for people who have libraries that stock games and unfortunately all the libraries near me don’t stock video games 🙁

  5. MaximumHeresy

Mine has brand new blu-rays of every movie that comes out. Somebody in town is doing me a favor!

  6. shootamcg

Yep, mine has games, movies, CDs – but also I also borrowed a radon test kit, a thermal camera, and graphic novels. They have 3D printers and podcast/recording studio rooms. Love the library.

Rental stores need to make a come back. I miss blockbuster and Hollywood video

  8. BlasterShow

Mine did, but apparently some folks abused it and now we can’t 😕

  9. Niklaus15

I hope you rented it for a while, because KCD2 is looooong

  10. I was just there today to rent/borrow books for kids (for my nephew). The answer is they neither have video games nor kids books.

Edit: wtf I googled the library that’s one hour away(another city) and they have elden ring for all consoles, and doom dark ages for xbox for example.

Also stellar blade for ps5 and every single resident evil. Omg I’m missing out on so many free games.

**VERY IMPORTANT:** check the kid’s section

At my library, theres an area for young adults and then a ‘kids’ section completely separate from that. I asked multiple times if the small shelf in the young-adults section of like 20 games was ALL they had and they *repeatedly* told me yes.

I look on their website and it turns out they had WAY more. When I asked about those games, they said “oh those are in the Kid’s section but no one asks for them.” So yeah, make sure to check the kid’s section cause your library might be run by out-of-touch old people. They had *BAYONETTA* in the kid’s section for crying out loud.

Blockbuster is back baby! But only in select libraries.

  13. DMTeaAndCrumpets

Mine has a bunch of games but nothing new. Probably because they’re defunding the library every chance they can get. They do have a bunch of older stuff though.

  14. FireKitty666TTV

Mine charges for fucking movies there’s no way shitty blockbuster is doing them well lol

  15. afrandsen

Yes! I have played so many ps5 games from the library, switch games too! I have saved so much money lol

  16. hotnewroommate

    I don’t put things in my Ps5 if I don’t know where they’ve been

Went with my kids the other day to our local library and they already had Nightreign. I was so happy to see it and get to try it for free. Turns out I’m awful at it so glad I didn’t buy it. lol.

  18. Yes it’s always the first place I check before I consider buying it. I managed to play a bunch of yakuza games, outer wilds, persona games and more completely free

  19. Lothric43

Grab a fuckin book while you’re at it. It’s getting alarming how little and how capably people can read anymore.

  20. BadiBadiBadi

I used to rent all kinds of DVDs from my librabry too before all the VOD sites came about

  21. SecretLuma

My local library closed because my city no longer wants to fund it.

  22. OfficerJayBear

I worked for the west Bloomfield library for a good 3 years. I was constantly taking home books, movies, CDs, games etc. Libraries are GOATed

  23. I’ve been having such a hard time lately finding a game that truly keeps my interest and I hate not finishing something I paid for so I’ve been using the library games almost like demos.

  24. downtreader

in michigan, some libraries also rent out their games through the electronic library system (MEL). if your local doesn’t have it, other michigan libraries may share!

  25. Nail_Biterr

I get tons of games from mine. And blu rays too. And, believe it or not, books!!

  26. GaranMursyk

Hey that’s my library and I didn’t even know!

  27. SpicyPotato66

Ours does too and I was blown away by the selection and how they had modern games for PS5. Pretty rad

  28. My best friend lives in Milford, MA and he gets *BRAND NEW GAMES* from his library. It’s ridiculous. This guy was playing Metroid Dread on launch day. Resident Evil 4? Day 1. Street Fighter 6? You betcha.

He hasn’t bought a game in years. That’s a great benefit of living in the #1 ranked state by Education.

So OF COURSE I live in the deep South and don’t have those priviledges.

(I jest of course. My local library has everything from a recording studio to 3D printers all free to use. It really is fantastic, and I fear the day libraries are eliminated, which is not an outlandish fear in this administration).

Donate to your local library if you’re able. There are still more libraries than McDonald’s in the US, and it should stay that way. Education is our future.
