the company cancelled the event “to avoid backlash”.

runescape players are outraged by something or other on average 3-4 times a year.
i don’t even remember anymore what it was the last time

How many players are in an uproar exactly? Article just says players.

No one cares but a loud-mouthed minority that has been given too much time in the spotlight. Good for the CEO. Get politics out of our games!

RuneScape players were pretty vocally against a Pride event several years ago. Jagex did not run a Pride event for a few years after that.
It seems that it’s just a Reddit thing.

This is why games like Warframe keep on winning, they don’t cancel these types of events

Good its time we stopped catering to a minority and ruining it for the majority.

The new CEO – as disrespectfully as possible – can lick my ass. Probably wouldn’t since he’s homophobic though

The Reddit outrage will end within a couple weeks. Pride events only existed for three consecutive years in RS’ 20+ year history. By contrast, Thanksgiving events lasted for a much longer stretch (2008-2016) and people barely talk about their removal despite being a more frequently celebrated holiday.

I enjoyed them. They were nice.

Its depressing to think that people still play runescape

This shit has been making me laugh because all major corporations have dropped pride they do not care about y’all and only care if its beneficial for them but then pride people are all pikachu surprised face.
Soontobebanned86
Meh, they’ll stop playing for a few hours and then get right back to it.

Runescape player*. Just you by the look of it.

Speak for yourself, I’m fine with it. It was low key creepy finding journals about random NPC’s sexualities (yes it’s a thing)

Conservatives get mad about corporate pride merch/events and boycott.
Progressives have spent the last ten years sneering and calling them “rainbow capitalism”.
I’m not surprised that the ultimate outcome by running the numbers is that it’s better to just not do them.

I can confirm as a player an actual player of the game- no one cares, no one in the game talks about it. Very few people actually took part in the events in the past. RS3 is already very niche, but we’re talking a few 100 players in a game of like, 20,000 daily active.

The choice should have been between not having one at all or having one. Deciding to have one and then cancelling it is the worst possible thing they could have done.

Last years pride was great. Cute little plushies to recolour. Sad to see there might not be a pride event in an official capacity this time around, but the community will probably do stuff regardless. Can’t speak about OSRS, but on rs3 the past couple of months jagex has wanted to do some significant changes. They’ve met with pushback each time so I can imagine they just want to sort that shit out first. Before someone says that game health and events are managed by different departments I would hope thats the case. Jagex is constantly bleeding employees so I wouldnt be surprised if events are just on the cutting room floor because theres just a lack of resources.

Correction: REDDIT players in an uproar after new Runescape CEO cancels Pride event (and a vast majority of those are not even playing Runescape).

Yaaa people are getting sick of it. Though I don’t see a reason to not leave in content for those who want it.
