Can Linux run on-

Weird post. As if most people in this PC gaming sub don’t have 64 bit processors

  2. Choubidouu

Ok and what you do with your linux and electricity exactly ? Nobody using linux has a crappy PC.

  3. CumminsGroupie69

Maybe I’ll never understand the Linux hype 🤷🏼‍♂️

  4. TopdeckIsSkill

but can linux run the software I need?

Fun fact. Windows actively sells and I dont know how or where, but IOT licensees that can run on less than 4gigs of ram and intel n3100.

You find it a lot in rugged and IOT devices like barcode scanners and whatnot. What I learned is, it’s basically Windows 11 without all the bloat!

Zero one drive, zero co-pilot, zero anything. Completely clean windows. and it’s blazingly fast….

So Microsoft….why can’t you just sell this as a stock os, or even a pro os? EVEN THE PRO OS IS WORSE?!

like what the actual hell… it exists but w cant have nice things 🙁

I wish I could strip the license off and put it on my full windows setup. it would be godlike…

All these linux propagandas make me want to avoid them even more

  8. Wittyname0

“Valid license” even Microsoft support uses *method that shall not be named on this subreddit* to activate users computers if the standard methods are being tricky.

I’m a Linux user and this meme is dumb.

Who the hell is running a desktop these days that doesn’t have a 64 bit processor, or 4GB of RAM? I can find a PC with better specs than that in the garbage.

Linux is great for low end hardware, but how many people on this subreddit actually care to run a PC with a 32 bit CPU or 2GB of RAM? Not even sure you could run a modern web browser with those specs.

Idk ive seeing windows on some weird shit, including old af metal cutting machines and pc os on old button phones so no its up to you to make a version for hardware

  11. DarthRyus

Wait… by that logic, Windows doesn’t need electricity.

  12. TurnUpThe4D3D3D3

I don’t mind the windows requirements, except for TPM 2.0

  13. Jebatus111

    – Me, using pirated windows 10 gutted by some drunk Eastern European programmer to the state of being borderline lighter than linux:

    Wut?

Btw – never used licenced windows for long time. Amount of useless bloatware is insane.

  14. TheCarrot007

Meh. Not in the remotest bit funny.

I have a linux box, I have a windows box. They are used for different and also the same things! I would expect most people have at least 2 desktops and a laptop (I shall not count, old stuff, for example a Amstrad PPC640, still works, no harddrive so dos, but it works) 😉 .

Modern linux will not run on a lot of hardware either. Old linux does not county becuase old windows fulfills the same task (and depending on how far you go back both are pretty much abandoned).

WIn 11 does not need all those things. I have them but I chose that and think people would be silly not to (well maybe not the valid license thing). It would not let me work without a lot of that as well.

Things get old and abandoned, time moves on, for linux as well as windows. Welcome to life. You will be too one day 😉

I think Linux is the right choice for just about everything except gaming and steam os has just about solved that.
That said my main gaming pc will probably always be a windows but as I build niche machines for other jobs around the house Linux is the clear and obvious choice.

  16. knight_prince_ace

Can Linux play the games I want AND the programs I use without needing to learn a new language?

  17. 7900XTXISTHELOML

But when Linux inevitably fucks up and doesn’t work

This sub- maybe Linux just isn’t for you

    Lmfao

  18. I had a PC so old that Linux lagged on me sooo. Or maybe I was dumb and did something wrong

  19. typewritrr

    Please note, electricity is optional.

  20. RaccoonwithRailGun

    the original says “electricity(optional)”.

  21. GabrielRocketry

So… Can it run on my 8-bit relay computer?

  22. Megatanis

Fuck microsoft and fuck win11. Been using it for decades, but this time they shit the bed for real. Hardware limitations are unacceptable.

  23. nerdyneedsalife

Getting audio interfaces to work is a pain depending on the distro

  24. xGHOSTRAGEx

Linux has stable game support of “number of games” ‘looks away’

  25. Hewr_s96

even the CPU is optional in linux, try it you will lose nothing

  26. deedeekei

Bitch if you don’t have the requirements for windows while browsing in r/pcmr you don’t deserve to be in r/pcmr lmao

  27. Risk_of_Ryan

The top isn’t even correct either 😆 shocking!

  28. BigBootyBitchesButts

Literally. Linux ran on a broken motherboard.

  29. Hooligans_

In the make believe PCMR land where everyone is 16 and only uses their computer for video games?

  30. Sriman69

linux sucks, how can it be free and open source. It makes me feel very sad not being able to pay for the billionaires who fly on their private jet and pollute our planet.

  31. Jaibamon

Eh, I just installed Windows 11 PE in a 16GB USB just to make a booteable USB with Rufus.

Windows can also fit on small, low resource devices, and you can run a browser in it.

But it’s not suitable for personal use, the same way a small Linux distro is not suitable for personal use, and you end getting Linux Mint.

  32. scarlet_igniz

why are Linux users so annoying and shoving the OS they use all freaking day??? nobody gaf they can’t compare at gaming levels they can’t run competitive games like Fortnite they can’t run Adobe suite programs and professional software just natively without having multiple head strokes dealing with the compatibility and stability issues GOD just STOP

  33. eusouobatmanbr

I use Linux to work and studies (I.T. and programming staff) and Windows for gamming. They are just the best choice in their role, no feelings, just use what suit your needs.
