This is the setup of me and my wife on a single space.

We have really low space and we are looking for a less visually cluttered aesthetic, more concrete ideas and to make the space more mature and less "teenager", at least that's my vision of things, this space was built over several years with recent and old elements, I will soon be doing some work (painting) and so I think it's the right time to share my current setup and asking help.

It is concretely a setup initially for gaming (but also for productivity) and there will be the same space on the right and left (a second PC setup).

Here's what bothers me about the setup but i don't have any idea what to do:

  1. The wall color. I initially like the dark color, but this blueish tint is too artificial and doesn't complement the warmth of the walnut on the wall and desk. Also, I have a lot of pure black things (peripherals/bookcase, etc.), and the separation between the pure black and the dark blue is really unattractive to my taste.
  2. The frames, that's the thing that makes my head spin the most, I can't find anything that attracts me in art and I don't know where to get it so yes, these are images generated by AI with a style that I liked, however they are no longer really to my taste and the most disturbing thing is the raw color difference (pink/red/blue etc)
  3. I don't want to completely remove the plush animals things (especially the foxes) one that would go on the right and another on the left, I want to make a sort of perfect symmetry with the left side when my wife's PC corner is finished, I wonder if the idea I had to obtain a singular symmetry of the wall is a good idea, it suggests that the setup is only for one person while the setup is indeed split in two.
  4. I also wonder if the bookcases on each side of the desk are a good idea. (even if I don't necessarily have a choice, I don't have any other place to store my goodies and the idea isn't that bad after all)
  5. The overall decor, especially the wall shelves, I can't put much on them because the depth of the wall shelves is shallow so I'm wondering if I should replace them.
  6. The light source, you see here the setup with sunlight, when it's in the middle of the night I lack quality light, I have a Philips Hue LED strip and Philips Hue bulbs on the other side of the room but I would like other light sources but I have no idea what to buy (very warm preferably) because i absolutely don't like Philips Hue things, colors are awful and not natural.
  7. The countertop, I basically like walnut, it's dark and… sober! but why not something lighter like Saljan oak or something even darker like Saljan black marble? (or stick with the one I have?) I initially want to change the walnut board because the color does not match the wall (this wall is extremely disturbing lol)

With everything I've listed so far, do you have any recommendations? I really want to change the overall aesthetic of my setup, it looks very "teenager" and doesn't reflect my current mentality, it really bothers me, I would like something more sober, maybe more monochrome and more mature but I don't know which element would need to be changed or removed.

Man, ima be fr with you, you need to take a ultrawide screen like a 45″, take an xxl mousepad, the two painting on the wall, i think you should change them for something else, like a picture of your wife and you, or your kids, familly, or even your pets, the vibe’s cool tho

Looks fine. If it really bothers you so much, just replace the plushies with plants and the waifu wall art with personal photos or some tasteful minimalist design from a show or movie. Or nature shit. Who cares?

If the goal is looking “more mature”, perhaps getting rid of the waifu artwork and stuffed cartoon cats everywhere would be a good place to start.

    Otherwise, it looks pretty clean.

AI arts gotta go, don’t support that shit and it looks god aweful too, as for maturity? Who cares as long as you personally like it, I’m a grown arse man and I’m surrounded my anime figures, gaming posters and pokemon cards.

  5. Asks for advice and literally argues with anyone who gives them some. Lol it’s funny watching every response you have get down voted. Either listen to people or do what ever you feel like and delete the thread so your karma stops getting wrecked

  6. Just my opinion, but it’s already looking old (gen x vibe) setup to my eyes, not teenagers.

Walnut/black, black blocky speakers, and geishas feel very gen x. half glass door cupboard even kinda grandma looking. You only need kid photos and big dac/amp to complete the look lol.

Were it me, I think I will fill the wall with those wooden wallpanel from edge to edge. Help to make it more “monochrome”, losing contrasting element and make it less black (I feel like you think black as gamery/teenager) but still interesting element.

I think I’ll remove the dolls or move them to the shelf/bookshelf to declutter.

I’ll move the pc to the floor if possible. It’s more productive to have less things on the desk.

I’ll remove the frames or replace them with simpler/subtle and lighter image such as geometry shape.

You can use edison bulb to make warm light at night.

Replace the AI slop with actual art by actual humans- those 2 large images are horrible and look really kitsch , you didn’t even catch the blatantly malformed hands?

Expecting another comment disagreeing but wow those images are awful.

That’s a single setup with a second mousepad if you ask me.
