I switched from console to PC gaming in 2023 so i never had the chance to experience SLI gaming. Today i built a x299 system just for fun and testing SLI
Specs:
CPU: i7-9800x (will upgrade to i9-10980xe)
Mobo: Asus rampage VI extreme
Ram: trident royal z silver-8x16GB at 3600mhz
Case: Lian li O11D XL black
Cooler: Asus rog strix LC II 360
PSU: Silverstone HELA 2050R platinum
Fans: All are lian li wireless fans
Dual gpu pic = 2x 1080ti’s
Quad gpu pic = 4x 980ti’s
(Quad Titan Xp soon)
(Quad Fury X soon)
980ti Gpu 3 is a little hot i know. Will repaste it with some PTM7950 soon.

Man i wish i had that kind of money 🙁
That is the coolest shit I have ever seen in my life. The fusion of old school 4way SLI with maximum modern RGB pest is definitely unique.
NSFW tag please, this is porn.
Damn I wish I had the money to do stuff like this. Maybe one day…
I think SLI will make a comeback… currently there is a way to use two gpus where one is native render and the second take those native frames and frame gen them using an app from steam
OP you need video cards
now this is a good use of disposable income
All worse than a 3090
The RGB isn’t my thing, but 4-way SLI will never cease to be cool despite its uselessness. The utilization in that game seems pretty decent though.
Rainbow barf again, also just why 980’s? if you’re gonna go all out get the latest supported.
Nice, how does it perform in modern games?
GPU 3 seems like it’s having a rougher go at it than the others.
Ah sli, the performance of 1.5 GPU for the price of 4.
That’s what we like to see! YEAH!
Fucking cool dude

This deserves more up otes than every “look at my new 5090” post combined, so cool dude.
Gpu 3 the hottest doing least work
I miss this… like I really miss beefy monster builds with a ton of GPUs.
Reality is that newer APIs like Vulkan allow much easier GPU load balancing too, so it’s stupid that we got rid of this at the worst time. It was always rough with bad frame timing back then, now things would be smoother given a bit of work.
I had a dual 1080ti and single 1070 (3 GPUs in one system) setup for a while and loved it, the 1080tis were in SLI and the 1070 was used for additional monitors and also occasionally processing GPU heavy tasks that I didn’t want on my 1080tis so I could game while doing other work (was a Threadripper system, still didn’t work that well though given Windows and how it does GPU picking).
this PC would have done mad numbers in 2016 Setup Wars
Congrats on engineering the shiniest e-waste one could imagine.
Why
1.076 GHz core clock??? no thanks
I love what you’re doing Man. Keep up the good work. I’m old school with the voodoo 2 SLI using the cable back in the day. Used to really fricking slap hard.
GPU 3 is using more power?
25 watts more than GPU 2 and GPU 4, and 45watts more then GPU 1.
Has it always been that way? Something is definitely up with it.
this was my dream 10 years ago. Nice build man, however impractical it may be
